Wrapped in a red cloak, this aromatic and complex beer reveals a scent of spice, orange and malt, followed by caramelized notes and a finish as hot as dying embers.

It evokes the Quebec legend of La Chasse-galerie – or flying canoe – which tells the tale of men who would risk anything for a night of fun, even making a pact with the devil.

A dark brown beer with red notes, a head is big and blond. Aroma has flowers, dried and dark fruitness, plums, some spices and bananas. Taste has dried fruits, quite strong peppery spicyness, some flowers. Medium bodied, strong carbonation but smoothly. Aromatic and dark fruity, surprisingly fresh.

0.341 l bottle from ’Saveur Bière’, bottled in August 2015. Clear, dark reddish amber with a medium large, foamy, stable, tan head. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity aroma of caramel, brown sugar, prunes, dates and coconut. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity taste of caramel, brown sugar, prunes, dates and coconut, followed by a short, slightly bitter, moderately yeasty-spicy and a little warming finish. Medium to full body, smooth and effervescent mouthfeel, lively carbonation. The aroma and taste are rather faint, but this is overall very well-balanced and round. Very easy drinking for that abv, no alcohol whatsoever detectable. Very nice!

A complete classic. Unfiltered amber-brown body. Big, fluffy, off-white/beige head. A little bit of mineral dryness in the aroma that I tend to believe wasn’t there "back in the day". Somewhere between a Belgian Amber and Dubbel, this one displays a lot of finesse. Great mouthfeel really carries it. Caramel, amber malt, brown sugar. Sweet, but not sticky or heavy. Great beer.

From a 355ml bottle on 5/2/2015. Pours a goden brown with a medium head. The nose is sweet, fruity, dusty and spicy. In the mouth, it’s very Belgian - the yeast is prominent, with sticky fruit and spices dominating. Not overly sweet, but quite rich with just a hint of bitterness. The palate is a touch creamy and the carbonation soft. A decent enough big Belgian.

12 oz. bottle. Dark reddish-brown color. Creamy head. Dark fruit, spice, and yeast aroma. Sweet-smelling. Similar taste with a bit of malt, bread, caramel and brown sugar as well. Flavor has some sweetness, but on a more subtle level than in the aroma. A good amount of carbonation. Nice balance.

Rated from old notes. A French-Canadian Ale done in the Belgian style. Yeasty, well carbonated, starts sour but settles on the palate and an increased sweetness takes over. Good beer. Great label.

Bottle from Harvest Market, Bedford NH. Aroma is Belgian yeast, bready malt. Appearance is hazy red orange-brown with good sparkle, two finger head that shrinks but persists and negligible lacing. Taste is similar to nose, yeasty fruity esters. Palate is medium bodied with slightly slick texture and lively carbonation, fairly dry finish as with the taste.

Pours a hazy brown color, topped with a decent off-white frothy head. Aroma is malty with caramel, some yeasty notes and spices. Taste is sweet at the start and quite malty, some yeasty notes and alcohol in the body, but not too bad. Not a bad one, passable and quite strong feel to it.
