A perfect harmony between the barley and wheat provides the typical cloudy and the specific and fruity aroma. At the end of the cooking process in the brewing room, the spice mixture of, among others, coriander and citrus fruits is added.
Not brewed with unmalted wheat like all other white beers, but with 40% unmalted barley and with a secondary fermentation in the bottle. That is precisely why the label mentions 'Gerstewijn'. The secondary fermentation takes ten days in a heated room with a constant temperature of 22 ° C.

Sample at Palace Hall, Malmö December tasting (14/12/2024) - dry and fruity with a herbal and floral lemon edge, citrus rind, doughy bready malts, light to medium body, yeasty notes, light floral herbal finish.

Lemon. Wheat, mint somehow. But it’s alright. Feels a bit more full on spice and herb wise than I might have expected.

Gekregen op 13-06-2020 van mijn zoon en familie voor mijn vaderkensdag. Gekocht in De Bierhalle te Melle. En thuis geproefd op 10-10-2020.
Brouwerij Strubbe uit Ichtegem brengt ook een witbier op de markt, maar gebrouwen met 40% ongemoute gerst in plaats van ongemoute tarwe. Daarom staat op het etiket de vermelding: Gerstebier.
Vlaskop gerstebier is een goud-geel en helder bier dat bij het uitgieten veel wit schuim produceert in een dik-wollige vorm. Het blijft sterk aan de glaswand kleven maar zakt na een tijd toch in elkaar tot er nog een fijn laagje van ongeveer 1mm overblijft in je glas. Er blijft ook nog wat gistdepot achter op de bodem van het flesje. Verder zie je veel fijne CO2 belletjes.
HET AROMA:
Licht karamelzoet, citrus, mout en koriander.
DE SMAAK:
Karamelzoet, wat hopbitterheid, citrus, mout en wat koriander.
HET MONDGEVOEL:
Medium body en een sprankelend koolzuurgas.
DE NASMAAK:
Vloeit uit, is zeer licht hopbitterig, licht karamelzoet, zeer lichtjes droog, mout en wat meer koriander.
HET TOTAALGEVOEL:
Een harmonieus bier.
HET VERDICT:
Dit heeft niets te maken met witbier, wat gerst ipv tarwe toch kan doen, het is een goede doordrinker, wel wat slapjes van smaak, maar in alle geval toch met een eigen smaak. Verder moet het toch van mijn hart dat het weer eens 25CC is dat ik hier tegenkom, ben daar zeker geen voorstander van.

Bonde and hazy. Slight hop and citrusaroma that comes back stronger in the flavor. An agreable fruitiness. Thin to medium bodied. Easy drinker with some quality on board.

From old tasting notes. Pale yellow gold color. Big creamy white head. Faint wheat malt nose hints of lemon peel. Tart, citrusy fruit mal flavor. Refreshing, yet pedestrian.

F: big, white, good retention. C: gold, hazy. A: malt, wheat, coriander, orange peels, citrus, yeasty, spicy, green apple. T: malt, wheat, orange peels, citrus, spicy, coriander, light soapy, light to medium body, medium to high carbonation, very refreshing and tasty, 25cl bottle from Delhaize in Oostende.

Troebel geel bier met stevig schuim. Smaak is fris lichtzuur met een vleug citrus. Iets te zuur en helaas wat waterig en slap van smaak.
