Porter style Ale. Chocolate and beer! Are we Mad? We’d rather say passionate. We marry the soothing flavour of this complex malt barley grist with a hint of dark chocolate. This is a beer for your more self-indulgent moments. Great for lazy afternoons or long evenings, it is best served chilled with your feet up, watching the sun go down. Like we say – chilled.

A silky-smooth suppertime beer, created using dark malts and chocolate. Pronounced vanilla notes fuse the chocolate and malts together to give a rich, warming, flavour that also works well as a complement to fruity desserts, summer puddings and autumn berries.

Bottle. Black/brown, with a small head. Thin body. Aroma is of sour malt, strange. Taste is sweet, with malt and chocolate and subtle vanilla. Has a slight artifcial note to it. Okay beer.

Ah. Now I’ve sussed what I’m supposed to be rating (I think a rebrand may have taken place). 330ml bottle. Waitrose. Clear, dark, ruby red. Thick, bubbly, beige head, that I suspect won’t last. Dried vine fruit. Cocoa powder. A hint of rubber, or at best, leather. Taste is cocoa dry. Some bonfire toffee sweetness. Palate is dry, and thin. Finish is, too. Feels sickly and artificial. There’s something about Meantime beers that I can’t get on with, which I know is my loss..,

Bottle from Seoul Plaza. Aroma has nice rich dark malt character, lots of toffee, chocolate. Clear dark colour. Rather small head, but that may be due to quite low temperature at pour. Tastes lets all the sweetness shine, mainly lots of toffee and chocolate, but has a definite bitterness standing behind the bold flavours. One can even find notes of English hop character in the finish. Rewarding beer, I like it very much.

Bottle at home, from ABM, 02/06/14. Dark mahogany brown with a well appointed light tan covering that dissipates a little then stays for the show. Nose is roast malt, earthy cocoa powder, dark berry fruit, light charring, Bourbon biscuits. Taste comprises quite a prominent chocolate flavour, roast malt, brown bread, brown sugars. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, semi drying close with light roast and a sweet rinse. Ok chocolate driven porter.

330 mml Bottle tasted on 07/05/2014. Chocolate is the principal note of the beer. The aroma is excellent and the sweet taste is very nice. Drinkable beer. I like it. Next one please!

Bottle from Waitrose in Buxton. Dark with only a head around the glass rim. Chocolate is more than evident, perhaps mostly in its aftertaste but this is more than pleasant in the palate, although there’s plenty of nose too.
