330 ml bottle. Garnet color topped by a small beige cap. Nose is vinous malt with notes of toasted cinnamon Pop Tarts. Flavor is bittersweet malt with a hint of salted caramel and brandy. Faint resiny, herbal hops. Finishes dry with a warming alcohol burn. I first had this about 30 years ago when it was one of the strongest beers in the world. Quite unique back then. Not so much now. Still, an interesting tasting brew with whiskey-like qualities.

Pours dark ruby with tan head. Aroma is vinous, with hints of strawberry jam. Mouth is powerful, deep, slightly sweet. Long finish.

Copper colored, small to no beige head, non lasting. Aroma is of malt, candy caramel-fruity and dried fruits, pretty sweet, notes of alcohol. Taste is moderate+ sweet caramel and candied fruits, some nuts, toffee, low bitterness, alcohol and alcohol warmth provided. Medium to strong bodied and moderate carbonation, thick and syrupy.

Pours a clear amber color, topped with a medium off-white head. Malty aroma, dark fruity feel and caramel. Taste is sweet and malty, lots of alcohol presence (too much), some bitterness in the finish and metallic a bit. Just not nice.

Bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - deep amber with a thin head that falls away very quickly. Nose - honey, maybe some red fruits and definitely a boozy backdrop. Taste - toffe and honey. Maybe oranges. Luscious boozy finish. Palate - full bodied with a rich sweet middle section and a tangy and still rich and sweet finish. Overall - not exactly balanced or refreshing but nicely indulgent like a barley wine in some ways.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 9A). Bottle 33 cl - Batch F2 21:05. AROMA: strong malty presence with notes of some caramel and bread crust (Maillard reaction). peppery alcohol aromas complement the malt. APPEARANCE: deep amber color with slight orange highlights and translucent. medium to thin ivory head with low retention with some lacing. TASTE: strong malty and alcoholic presence with a sweet character and some toasty notes. moderately-low and balanced bitterness. almost sweet finish. PALATE: full body with medium carbonation. OVERALL: a very good (and strong) doppelbock.

330ml bottle from Appellation Wines. Pours clear amber, short-lived off-white head. Aromas of honey, caramel, light herbs, wood and boozy notes. Brandy maybe. Taste is sweet, light booze burn, malty, some fruit preserved in alcohol kinda thing going on. Slightly sticky on the finish.

Bottle at the Saloon. Clear deep amber color, medium light tan head. Aroma of lightly toasted toffee. Taste is burnt caramel.

Clear deep amber colour, small frothy beige head, sizzles away within seconds, no lacing. Sweet malty aroma, roasted, caramel, honey, nutty, alcohol, liquor. Taste medium to heavy sweet, light bitter, honey, roasted malts. Full-bodied, oily texture, flat carbonation, aftertaste sweetbitter, towards finish burning and astringent sensatons giving it a medicinal feel, heavy duty beer, alcohol ever-present.
