The fully traditional geuze De Troch in 75 cl, only occasionally produced and different from the lightly sweetened Chapeau Cuvée - this is the unsweetened version. Citric acid and lactic acid relatively well-balanced, complex as can be expected from the style, though not the best old geuze I had so far.

Undeservingly, this is one of the lesser known gueuzes. The first sip fills your mouth with the intense funky bretty sourness I love about gueuze. After that you get a long and aromatic taste of funky barnyard, horseblanket, oak, mild vanilla, bretty dryness and some acidic fruit. Brilliant.

Bottle at Kulminator. Hazy amber liquid with minimal white head. Aroma of lemon, paper, minerals, funk, apples and a bit sugar. Taste is light sweet and light to medium sour with notes of lemons, mineral and apples. Medium bodied with very low carbonation. Quite nice if a bit sweet.

2010 Vintage. 375mL bottle at DHVL, pours a fairly clear golden with a small white head. Aroma is very faint and subtle, with faint funky notes as a little citrus zest. Flavour is not very complex for a gueuze, within sour funky light fruits, and some intense citrus. Not the best gueuze out there, with a low complex, citrusy palate. Not so good.

Vintage 1999. No label.
Pale orange golden colour, slight white head. Light tart aroma, malts, acidic, lemon and lime, barn, livestock. Quite tart flavour, acidic, citric acid and lactic acid. Quite tart, fresh finish.
Not the greatest of all geuzes, but nice in it’s own right, and much better than the present Chapeau produce imho.

Anno 1999 bottle sample @ 2nd RBBSG, August 11th 2012. Courtesy of 77ships.

Tasted @ Gastropub Tuulensuu geuze blind tasting 2012. #12/15 overall rating

BBE 2013 - Pours murky orange with no head. Strong cellar and potato notes in the aroma along with some fruitiness. Taste is stingy with some tart fruitness and earthy notes. Finish is sticky and slightly sour with tart fruits. Unbalanced.

Bottle at DHVL. It pours hazy straw yellow with a thin white head. The nose is tart lemon, farmyard, musty and wood. The taste is lots of sharp lemon, grapefruit, white grape, lemon sherbet, with a dry, tart finish. Good lemony acidity. Medium body and lively carbonation. Surprisingly good stuff from De Troch.
