In 2006, almost exactly 10 years after we first released Stone Smoked Porter, Stone Small Batch Brewer Laura Ulrich had a brilliant idea: What if she added whole Madagascar vanilla beans to a small batch of the finished beer? And voilà, Stone Smoked Porter w/Vanilla Bean was born! It was an instant hit, as the resulting flavor combinations—rich vanilla melding with the malty, chocolaty, coffee-like characteristics of the beer—were practically made for each other. Originally available only as an occasional growler fill or on tap all-too-briefly at special events or in our restaurant, this exquisite creation was released in a single bottle run for the first time in 2012, much to the delight of its many fans…who instantly began clamoring for more. Cask (handpump) @ White Horse on Parson’s Green, 1-3 Parson’s Green, Greater London, England SW6 4UL.Clear dark black color with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is heavy malty, milk chocolate, cacao, vanilla, moderate alcohol, smoke - wood notes. Flavor is heavy sweet and moderate to light heavy bitter with a long duration, and a smokey notes. Body is medium, texture is creamy, carbonation is soft to flat. [20090807]

Cask (White Horse, Parsons Green, London) - Black with some faint red tinges. Chocolate in the aroma with hints of vanilla. Vanilla also features strongly in the taste along with more chocolate notes. The finish is nicely balanced with vanilla and milk chocolate. It gets a bit sickly after a while, though and the smoked elements seemed to be overwhelmed by the vanilla.

Cask@The White Horse, Parsons Green, London.Black colour, small beigeish head. Aroma is vanilla, roasted malts, liquorice, oak, caramel, fudge and lots more. I’m lost for words. Flavour is very close to the aroma in an extremely good balance. Lacking something I can’t pinpoint in the flavour. Really close to perfection! Orgasm of the senses!

Cask@The White Horse. Deep ruby color, no head. Sweet vanilla aroma, sweetness overcomes the smokeyness. Cocoa powder, vanilla flavor, some hops. Vanilla gives kind of artifical feeling here. Not much smoke except some in the aftertaste. Balanced dessert for vanilla heads.

On cask. Pours with a huge, light brown head covering a murky brown body. Aroma of canilla extract, some cocoa powder, coffee and a bit of something woody, like a cigar humidor. Taste is a lot of wood, smoke, and dry coffee. Syrupy mouthfeel, and light bubbles.

Draught. I surmise this is the same, but there was no mentioning of "smoked" Good, receding light beige head over black beer. Vanilla, (waffles) very obvious, but these waffles are with maple syrup. Again Brussels’ waffles in the taste; vanilla, sweet, and a roasted finish. Medium bodied, slick & oily. Quite special and well-worth seeking out.

Draft. Blackish beer with a nice cream colored head. Vanilla, slight smoke aroma. Vanilla, smoke, rich malt flavor that lingers. Well balanced. Medium body. Nice drinking. The vanilla definately adds another nice layer for complexity and makes it very drinkable.
