In 2006, almost exactly 10 years after we first released Stone Smoked Porter, Stone Small Batch Brewer Laura Ulrich had a brilliant idea: What if she added whole Madagascar vanilla beans to a small batch of the finished beer? And voilà, Stone Smoked Porter w/Vanilla Bean was born! It was an instant hit, as the resulting flavor combinations—rich vanilla melding with the malty, chocolaty, coffee-like characteristics of the beer—were practically made for each other. Originally available only as an occasional growler fill or on tap all-too-briefly at special events or in our restaurant, this exquisite creation was released in a single bottle run for the first time in 2012, much to the delight of its many fans…who instantly began clamoring for more. Grumbler purchase from Breeze-IN, Juneau AK.
This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a nice looking dark brown close to black color with a slim white one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. A light slim stringy lacing clings to the sides of the glass.
The smell started off with a fairly big roasty and smoky coffee and a slight cocoa. One really has to let it warm to get the vanilla, it’s barely there.
The taste was mainly roasty with a nice sweet to balance. A dry semi - sweet yet roasty aftertaste diminishes and leads to the same finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a nice sipping to almost sessionable quality about it. The carbonation seemed to be fairly subdued but still good for the style.
Overall, it’s a good smoked Porter though I was hoping for more vanilla, I’m pretty sure I’d have it again.

22 oz bottle. Pours black with a light tan head. Creamy coffee vanilla aroma with some roast and smoke. Flavor is roasty coffee, slightly smoky, pairing with silky cocoa and vanilla. It works pretty well.

Light brown color. Sweet vanilla, nutty, chocolately nose. Very malt mouth with lots of vanilla and chocolate hazelnut fudge. A bit too sweet for my liking but not bad.

Bottle - Dark roast malts and vanilla/ Jet brown with a beige head. Vanilla sweetness, roast malts and chocolate and a big bitterness. Not that great.
