Half-pint, 6 % abv, festival cask ale at Lord Palmerston. Near-clear red-brownish body, filmy layer, spotty lacing. Dried fruity nose, hints of caramel malts, inviting. Blended taste of stewed fruits and caramel malts. Mid-sweet malty ending, dry. Rounded mouthfeel and fine bodied. Pretty decent. (JDW). (Southsea 18.10.2022).

Cask (gravity) at Standing Order, Derby (at 6%). Pours a dark chestnut with no head whatsoever. There’s a slight fruitiness in the aroma, but not much. In the mouth it has a creamy texture with marmalade and ginger to the fore. After a while, treacle and autumn fruits start ro come through and the alcoholic strength begins to show. Finish is fruity and boozy. This is excellent !

Cask @ Moon Under Water, Manchester. Copper-amber with a glow. Notably strong but its biscuit and mild winter fruit provides enough flavour to be able to enjoy this winter warmer. Has a bitter finish.

Pours a coppery amber colour with a small, mostly lasting, foamy beige head. Aroma is malty and fruity, toffee and ripe fruit. A sweetish fruity and malty taste, sweet malts, toffee and ripe fruit flavours with a bittersweet finish.

Bottle from Morrisons, Aldershot. Aroma had sweet caramel and berries. Clear dark amber. Thin creamy off-white head soon fades. Light-medium bitter. Woody. Tangy. Sour berry streak gains traction. Underlying malts. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Flat-average carbonation. Long somewhat astringent finish. Interesting enough.

Bottle from Morrisons. Pours a clear copper colour with a thin fast dissipating head. Aromas of dry dark fruits, cherries, caramel, toasty bread and spice. Taste has more dark fruits, cherries, fruit cake, caramel, toasty bread, spice and also a touch of warming alcohol. Thinnish body, fair amount of carbonation and slightly oily mouthfeel. Quite a nice beer but with more body and less carbonation it could have been very good.
