To a relaxed end of the day in the beer garden, the Hofbräu Schwarze Weisse is like the traditional decorative costume jewelry (‘Charivari’) adorning a pair of lederhosen. Gently refreshing with a velvety-soft finish. The amber dark color, the creamy head and a fine malty bouquet will delight seasoned grown men and everyone else who prefer a wheat beer with a strong character.

Tap at the small bar by the BA gates at Munchen Flughafen - 29/04/12. Amber to mid brown in colour with a large beige head. Yeast, banana and caramel on the nose with a little background spice. Toasted malt, banana, sweet cereals in the taste. Medium bodied and carbonation with a slightly bitter finish.

Cloudy red brown beer, big creamy light beige head, very stable, pretty adhesive. Aroma: floral, bit sweet, some caramel, spicy and peppery, slight hint of banana, bread yeast. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: little sweet, caramel, in the start, citrus, pretty yeasty, some banana, spicy. Aftertaste: bready, banana, some citrus, green banana, bit metallic, some milk chocolate, bitter touch.

50cl bottle. Brown colour with a good formation of a frothy, creamy and large head. Aroma is moderate toasty, sweet, with slightly clove hints. Flavour is bready, with touches of coffee with milk and a smooth final. Carbonation is soft to medium. Body is light to medium. Texture is creamy.

28/08 0.33 l bottle from Coop store, Gradisca d’Isonzo. It poured hazy brown body with medium to bigger brownish head. Sweetish caramel aroma, extremely cloying, along with wheat notes of bubblegum and banana. Finely sweet caramel yeasty flavor, banana, touch of coffee, plums... Full bodied with long caramel and sugary finish. Slightly acidic at this point. A nice dunkelweizen, no doubt, but a bit too sweet and cloying for my taste.

Courtesy of and shared with heavy (thanks!) Poured a brown-amber body, misty with a huge, lasting off white head. Full, sweet, bubblegumy lactic nose, very light coffee too. Extremely creamy banana taste, müsli, banana and did I mention banana? Light, acidic finish. Ooooh yeah!

On draught at Hofbräuhaus Las Vegas. The beer pours dark amber-brown with a medium foamy beige head that recedes slowly. Rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of bready malt, wheat and bananas. Medium body with flavors of caramel malt, banana, roasted grain and a touch of spice. The finish is toasty malt with a sweet caramel aftertaste. Decent overall.

50cl bottle Pours a stunning damson colour, with shades of gold and pink around a purple/brown centre. There are steady bubbles and a nice generous head -perfect. The nose has over-ripe pears and caramel. The taste has toffee-apple, then pears again. After all that, the palate is a little lighter in the start and middle sections than expected. A nice clean finish though. Overall, a very nice dunkel, though it may have been monumental, had the palate been a bit more chunky.
