Back in 2021.
Het was in 2012, ter gelegenheid van de 150ste verjaardag van de brouwerij, dat de Chimay 150 voor het eerst werd gebrouwen, in een beperkte oplage (150.000 flessen). Inmiddels opgenomen in het vaste assortiment van de brouwerij.
Chimay 150 is een sterk, verfijnd en verfrissend blond bier met een evenwichtige smaak, een bloemig aroma en aroma's van gedroogd fruit en specerijen. Het heeft een alcoholpercentage van 10%. Het wordt geproduceerd met een mengsel van twee hopsoorten, Saaz en Hallertau Mittelfrüh: twee hopsoorten die bekend staan om hun grote kwaliteiten en finesse. De unieke smaak is ook het resultaat van een geheime specerij die aan het recept werd toegevoegd.

bottiglia 33 cl, schiuma bianca fine persistente, color giallo pallido velato, al naso rosmarino menta eucalipto bergamotto note erbacee balsamica, in bocca spezie rosmarino chiodi di garofano frutta candita e leggero zenzero, carbonazione decisa, corpo rotondo, alcool ben bilanciato, dolce con amaro moderato, fresca e asciutta nel finale. Un’esplosione di aromi e sapori fuori dalla norma che devono piacere. Complessa ma semplice da bere. Una sola parola, Chimay. Ottima c. Fatti una birra 26.02.22

33cl Chimay bottle, green label. Cloudy golden, white head. Yeasty aroma, fruity, spicy, peppery. Yeasty flavour, sweet, fruity with some yeasty spice. Bitter, spicy finish.

Bottle on 6th February 2022 from La Belgique Gourmande, Brussels. Pours hazy blonde with a thick yellowy white foam and full lacing. Spices, yeasts and grasses in aroma. Aniseed, citrus touches and notes of tarragon and coriander in-mouth. A spiced hoppy finish. Full bodied with an engaging texture. Superb.

Clear golden colour with lasting head. Aroma and flavour are very herbal, spicy. I guess Gale, Coriander seed and maybe something else very floral. Qualitatively good but too spicy for my palate.

Bottle. Gold with a large white head that lasts pretty well. Aroma of crackery dough, loads of coriander, some cardamom, orange peel, vanilla. So it tastes. Sweetish at first but spices, bitterness a little alcohol dry things out at the end. A little crude but has charm. Dangerously easy drinking.

Green version in 33cl bottle. Clear golden, stable, foamy, white head. Aroma of flowers, honey, wet white pepper, apricot, mandarin, pear, yeast, bread crust, wheat, thyme, vague butter. Taste has sweet pear, apricot & apple in a bready malt body with spicy accents, coriander but not soapy, some sourish wheat & citrus. Floral hoppy finish, quite fruity-yeasty yet 'dry' spicy too, perfumey and flowery, with warming gin-like alcohol. Medium body, creamy texture, average carbonation. Nicely floral, fruity and elegantly spiced; a rounded Trappist.

Bottle from CroCraft. Hazy yellow-golden body, white head. Pungent aroma, pear and spices initially, honeyish, but also yeasty, not always in a way I prefer. Leaner taste, honeyish notes, very, very minty of all things, pear esters again, lightly meany yeastiness in the finish, slightly up front, but still, pretty good. Pleasant carbonation. This is good stuff, but not in perfect shape perhaps.
