Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is roasted malt, peat, mild smoke, liquorice, whiskey, with a touch of chocolate and light coffee. Flavour is medium sweet and moderate bitter. Body is medium, could have used a little more carbonation. Balanced use of peated whiskey, not overpowering at all, which is good. Falls a bit short in the body and mouthfeel department. Enjoyable, though it doesn’t drink like an Imperial Stout.

Bottle @ home. Black with no head. Smells boozy, wood, roasty, some coffee and chocolate perhaps. Tastes mostly peat, sweet, roasty. It tastes okay but it should’ve been more bold. Most of the taste doesn’t last, only some of the peat. Medium body, soft carbo.

Bottle from het Biermoment, 33 cl sample. Dark color, short frothy head. Aroma of some peat and a bit of raisin. Slight boozy. Dont get a lot of an RIS underneath, its mostly dry and peaty whisky, although it is not even that overwhelming. In the end, pretty balanced, but the base beer is not sweet enough imo to carry this kind of barrel aging. Its actually quite enjoyable, but I give lots of minus points for jumping the BA train without having a clue.

Bottle @ home. Opaque black color, medium sized brown head. Aroma is malts, dark malts, iron, earthy a bit, and of course peat. Taste malts, lightly ash, peat, smoked malts lightly. I somehow get a small, slight hint of something a bit sweetish. Don’t really know what it is. Maybe something a bit like syrup or something, I can’t quite put my finger on it. The peaty flavors, fortunately, don’t dominate and I actually think it is very well done. Body is maybe a little thinner than you’d want it to be, so it drinks more like an American Strong Ale rather than a (thick) IRS, but it’s definitely well done. Unless you like heavily peated beers, than you will certainly find this watery and thin I guess. But I like it!

Geproefd met Imco, het is een donker bruin bier met een dunne bruine schuimkraag. Het heeft een gebrande smaak met tonen van chocolade en een hint van rook.
