Posebno biranom kombinacijom sladova i američkih sorti hmelja napravljeno je pivo bogatog okusa, voćnog mirisa i jantarne boje. Dodatnim suhim hmeljenjem naglašena je svježina hmelja te aroma citrusa i borovine.

Bottle courtesy of Marko and ogivlado in Zagreb-Croatia, many thanks guys. Pours cloudy amber, a bit light. Infinitive off-white foam with much retention. Nose: citric, a bit garlic, resin. Mouth: again garlic, an astringent resinous note, but clean and enjoyable. Definitely a decent APA.

Pours a dark golden colour with almost no head. Very nice looking hazy appearance. Smell is wonderful and strong, mostly grapefruit and bitter orange. Taste follows suit - grapefruit, bitter orange, spices and herbs. Wonderfully balanced combination. Full body, medium carbonation. Bitterness is just right. Nice finish with herbal notes and pine flavour. Overall - loved it! Excellent beer well worth a try. Cheers!

Cheers to my friends and acquaintances at Varionica (literally means Brewery in Croatian). Had this many times, rating only now. Hazy orange with medium off white head. Floral hoppy aroma, not to overwhelming, first batch was much more aromatic (and bitter), but it’s better balanced now. Medium to full body, bitter, medium to heavily hopped. Hoppy character prevailed, some malts in the finish. Very good.

Nice tasty IPA with a cool acidic twist!
Unclear dark golden color with a fine white head. Looks nice. Good lacing. Herbal, pine, citric and fruity aroma. Medium body and an average carbonation. Ok balance between sweetness and bitterness. Herbal, pine, fruity and citric flavor with some acidic notes.

On tap at Sedmica Zagreb. Golden coloured, medium sized white to off-white head, fruity piney nose. Moderate malty, light biscuity, fruity hoppy and notes of pine with rather bitter hoppy finish. Well balanced and deadly drinkable.

On tap at Sedmica, Zagreb. Pours hazy amber with white head. Fruity and hoppy aroma and flavor, piney, malty. Light to medium body, very drinkable. Tried another batch at beer fest and it was not as good as the first batch.

Draught at Beer Fest in Zagreb. Pours a hazy amber color, topped with a sizeable and solid off-white head. Very pleasanty fruity aroma, sweet fruits, peaches (citrusy), grassy hops. Taste has a very pleasant hoppy bitterness, herbal notes which last also in the aftertaste. A bit sweetish aftertaste. Hoppy, but nicely drinkable. Very nice.

Later impression: Varionica has grown these last 5-6 months, that much is certain. The Pale Ale is now bottled too, and has become the favorite of many (again, so great that the 3 APAs on the market are so alike): I took the opportunity to rerate it recently in Melin, where they have it on tap along with the Wit. It still looks great, with that dark, clear amber body and a good white head. The aroma of this batch is probably the most reminiscent of the first one - again blueberry yoghurt, vaguely herbal and soft, but you can see the improvement in taste. The blueberry notes remain, with a touch of peach on a creamy body, backed with a medium, not excessive, herbal bitterness. Balanced and very drinkable. Good job! Initial impression:It’s been a rockier road than expected for this new Croatian client brewery at first, and we’ve all been expecting it eagerly since early December, but they finally decided to release their beer. Everything, from the design (brilliant) to the outlets was ready, but it’s been tough to get used to the new system there while fine tuning their APA. But it’s out - and the debut was at the Sedmica pub... a smaller, smokier, more expensive place than one would like for something like this, but fine enough nevertheless. It poured a lovely dark amber, coppery body with a small white head. The aroma was very fine indeed - basically blueberry yoghurt. It manages to pull off a profile that’s different than all the other pale ales that have come out on the market in Croatia - they are all still quite distinct - which is a plus. The taste starts out with more of the same, though falling slightly flat and ending in a vague herbal tartness. Quite tasty, though lacking just slightly more body and bitterness for "perfection".The next batch will be better, as the brewers are aware of what they need to fix, and I’ll rerate the beer then. And that’s what I love about the homebrewers gone pro here in Croatia. Not just the unity/friendship/friendly competition. All seem to strive for the best within the styles they do, and they are very self-critical, aware of any flaws their beers might have in a batch and wanting to correct them. Something you unfortunately don’t see that often in some places. Once again, this is a tasty beer already and these guys deserve all the support they get!
