Deep ruby red, decent creamy tan head. Coffee, balsamico, sourness and toffee in the nose. Carbonated, metallic, typical sour toffeeish flemish sour ale. Reasonably complex, hints of burning alcohol in the finish.

Bottle: Reddish amber coloured, beige fluffy head; complex nose: iron-oxide, fruits, caramel, some sourness and a tinge of "barrique" and "balsamico"....;starts sweet and malty; light sweet-sour flavour; ending is dryer and slightly sour, but not so adstringent and only a little bit tart; a sweet but pleasant Flemish Sour Ale, well balanced and not so sharp as other examples of this style.

Bottle, at Carlsen’s Kvarter, Odense, august 2005. Sell-by date was 23.12. 2003! Typical Flemish sour ale. Very dark reddish brown colour. Red wine / balsamico vinegar aroma and flavour, some sweetness remains. Oaky elements.

(Bottle 25 cl) Reddish brown with a pretty, tall head that sticks to the glass. The tartness comes first - almost vinous - to be relieved by an almost sticky sweetness. OK balance though. A genuine Flemish sour to the sweet side. 210599

(Bottle 25 cl) Clear, brown beer with more than just a touch of red. Huge, brownish head. Woody, oaky notes with some sweet, roasted malt. But everything is pretty much flushed away by the extreme sourness that makes for one of the most quenching and sour of sour ales. Not the usual metallic edge here. 030498

Dark amber color. Light nose, with some sweetness, candi sugar and sourness. The flavor is too simple, more deceiving, light mouthfeel, poorer than the other Verhaeghe...

Huge beige head, slightly irregular, lacing over brown-red beer. Acetic acid, (wine)vinegar, oakwood, brown malts, gingerbread. Whilst the first whiff is acetic, subsequent lactic acid takes over the aroma. An extra aroma reminds me of fried sweet peppers. Again sweet fried peppers in the taste. Taste is much sweeter than the nose leads to expect. Then, wood and soft acids fill in. Faint chocolate, somewhere, and lactic character, bit soupy. Medium bodied, a bit chewy; very slight acidburn. Good oud bruin, though a tad to the sweet side for me. However, the initial acetic onslaught makes me wonder how they managed to mask this. Further wood and diacetyl in the nose. Taste yields acetic acid, lactic acid, diacetyl and an artificial sweetener. That sounds even more ominous than it is. After a fizzy start, bends towards very soft water-like feeling. Wonder how that correlates to the sweetener. This is weird - and not very confidence-inspiring. It's as if the acidity and the sweetener are battling, with the first loosing out. Not what it ought to be. Some people might like it as a sweet beer, if they can overcome the nose.

Deep red body, thin tan head. The aroma is the closest to champagne I’ve encountered, with notes of white wine, vinegar, sour earthiness, and alcohol. Flavor is classic Flemish Sour with plenty of sweet, fruity balsamic vinegar, musty woody notes, and hints of grape. Not all that sour; tart is more like it. Is this filtered?

Hazy ruby/burgundy coloured body with a fast-dying tan head. Aroma of sweet/tart cherries, must and malt-nice! Medium-bodied; Super carbonated/sweet up front following with some metallic flavours and ending tart and malty-a complex beer overall! Aftertaste is dry, tannic and malty-very odd for a flem! Overall, a great flemish sour and very nice to try. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Vienna, Virginia on 09-July-2004 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

11.12 oz bottle. Pours a light strawberry red color, very clear with a light off-white head. Aroma is great, light oak, some moderate leather tannins, the typical light balsamic vinegar from the brewery and of course the cherries. Flavor isnt quite as inspirational. Lots of cherries, some chocolate and a weird dry, very astringent cinnamon thing going on throughout, but really strong on the finish. I guess towards the end of the glass, now that its warmed and breathed, it tastes pretty good, and I think Im getting used to the cherries, but they really are too much. This one has no where near the sourness I’d expect from a flemish SOUR ale. Great lacing, interesting aroma, and some unusual if somewhat flavorful characteristics make this one ok, but not anything exceptional, or so I think.
