Vichtenaar is a beer that is brewed on the basis of deep-roasted malts, spicy hops, fruity yeast and soft water pumped from a well with a depth of 172 meters. After the main fermentation and the second ripening, the Vichtenaar undergoes a third fermentation in oak feeds for a period of several months. The large upright oak barrels have a capacity varying between 5000 and 25000 liters.

Vichtenaar is a Flemish Red-Brown ale: a traditional and typical beer for West Flanders. The taste of Vichtenaar can be described as slightly acidic and complex and this due to the long fermentation in the oak foeder. The ruddy taste of Vichtenaar makes it particularly thirst-quenching. Vichtenaar is the oldest still brewed Flemish Red-Brown ale.

Dark blood red color with big head. Very red-viney aroma, a bit of dark fruits. Very sweet, slightly tart, fruity taste. Reminds me very much of cherry balsamico. Red apples as well, lots of red apples! I would like it to be much more sour, but this kinda fits. Interesting, and my friends like it more than the more sour versions.

Bottle @ ’t Poatersgat. Pours slightly hazy dark ruby with small beige head. Vinous aroma with notes of yeast and hops. Vinous onset leading to sweetish notes of fruit and malt, ending quite dry and acidic, with notes of yeast. A good one.

Reminiscent of the Douchesse, but with a more oaky taste and with some extra sour fruit. Tasty beer.

BOTTLE 25CL.

Look: Gusher! Deep and clear ruby-brown with a giant gushing beige frothy head.
Aroma: vinegar, greet fruit, acetone/glue and some sweetness in the background.
Taste: moderate acidity, harsh glue/acetone notes, apple vinegar and a solid sweetness too.

Wspaniale Flemish Ale. Zwielka piana, trwala bezowa i kremowa. To zadkie w tym stylu. Kwaskowe i lekko slodkawe zarazem. Wyczuwane wino deserowe, bardzo smaczne leciutko octowe. Taninowosc dosc spora. Sliwki, wisnie i marmolada. Kolor herbaciano-czerwony. Pyszne, az zal ze ta malenka buteleczka tak szybko sie skonczyla. Polecam.

250ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Gusher! Pours cloudy brown with a decent creamy head. Aroma of plums, stone fruit generally, maybe sour cherry. Light oak, subtle and well integrated. Taste brings more prunes and cherries. Medium bodied with tangy finish, but the structure takes you a few other places whilst you’re drinking it. Wish it was bigger, and we hadn’t lost a bit to gushing! I could’ve happily drunk this by the pint.
