Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout
Taking awesome and doubling it can only be double awesome. It’s math.
This is essentially the 35K recipe doubled. Double roasty, double chocolatey, double creamy, double delicious. Then we decided to make it 2.5X awesome by aging it in Angel’s Envy barrels for a really, really long time. The bourbon and oak flavors perfectly compliment the massive flavors in the double mega imperial milk stout. You don’t swim in this beer, it swims in you!

Draught @ Ørsted Ølbar. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized brown head. Aroma of malts, roasted malts, lightly coffee, lightly liquor, lightly wood and bourbon. Taste malts, roasted malts, lightly alcohol, lightly coffee, lightly wood, bourbon, bitter and just lovely barrel aging in there. Long lingering roasty bitter boozy finish, medium body, medium and soft carbonation. Very nice indeed!

Draft @ Ørsted Ølbar, Copenhagen. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty bourbon vanilla chocolate aroma. Roasted malty bourbon chocolate flavor with hints of vanilla. Has a roasted malty woody bourbon vanilla chocolate finish.

05/07/2013 Ma che siete venuti a fà (handpump). Nera, densa, impenetrabile, schiuma scurissima, color cappuccino, abbondante e persistente. Naso caffettoso-dolciastro, intensissimo, note di cioccolato e di vaniglia. In bocca è dolciastra, cioccolatosa, leggera nota di lattosio, morbida, i 13 gradi letteralmente impercettibili, equilibratissima. Corpo pieno, carbonazione leggera. Non fa gridare al miracolo, ma è davvero un gran bel prodotto!

The Sampler, Brooklyn tap: Pours black with a brown head. Aroma is a load of chocolate, booze, and molasses. Body is creamy and smooth. Alcohol is covered, but certainly present. Taste is rather sweet. Loads of chocolate. Some woodiness. Pretty good. Considering I was also given a bunch of samplers of this afterwards, so it is actually pretty drinkable.

From tap at Ørsted Ølbar. Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted liqourice and dark malty. Thick malty, toffee, vanilla and dense caramelish. Smooth bourbon. Bitter, dark roasted malty and lingering liqourice. Smooth finish.

On tap at Local Option. Pours a very dark blackish brown with a choclatey dark brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has dark fruits, strong roasted malts with a bit of bitter chocolate. Flavor starts full of chocolate with strong roasted malts and a bit of a bitter bite in the finish.
