Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout
Taking awesome and doubling it can only be double awesome. It’s math.
This is essentially the 35K recipe doubled. Double roasty, double chocolatey, double creamy, double delicious. Then we decided to make it 2.5X awesome by aging it in Angel’s Envy barrels for a really, really long time. The bourbon and oak flavors perfectly compliment the massive flavors in the double mega imperial milk stout. You don’t swim in this beer, it swims in you!

Craft Clerkenwell. Keg. Opaque black beer with a small tan head. Nose is pure bourbon barrel and darl malt lovliness. Palate is suprisingly light and mildly crisp from superfine carbonation. Smooth and semi sweet creamy dark malt with the expected oak smoothness. Vanilla and toasted coconut. No roast or bitterness in this one. Fruity bourbon with just a touch of spice. No real heat. If there can be such a thing as an easy drinking 13.1% beer - this is it!

Tap at Craft Beer Clerko, 22/10/13. Light black with a good sized tan head that clears to a swirl. Nose is big roast, liqourice, treacle toffee, light spice, hot chocolate goo. Taste comprises subtle bourbon notes, molasses, chocolate fudge, light boozey vein pumping through, decadent choccy woccy doo da. Full bodied, viscous and velvety, smooth on the palate with a moderately booze coated finale. Great stuff, the alcohol is well integrated and this is ridiculously easy to drink for 13% !

Keg at Craft Clerkenwell. It pours darkest brown with a small tan head. The nose is rich roast, treacle, vanilla, toast, earth, berry, liquorice, wood and light spice. The taste is rich, roasty, toast, salted caramel, chocolate, vanilla, jammy berry, stewed orange, liquorice and some smooth alcohol warmth. Full body, soft carbonation and oily mouth-feel. A big beer for sure, yet remains pretty drinkable. Tasty.

On tap @ Beer Temple. Black color. Beige head (not much). Aroma’s: roasted malts, oak, vanilla, light bourbon. Bourbon comes out more retronasal, with sweet chocolate and hints of red fruit. Flavor is moderate to full sweet, chocolatey, with a hint of fruity acidity. Alcohol is warming, but it drinks easily. Body is full, velvetty mouthfeel. Long finish, warming, with roast, a bit of ash and light bitterness. Awesome stuff.
