A mighty hop-lover’s dream, Hop Rising adds malty backbone to an intense Imperial IPA. This insanely smooth, dry-hopped ale has everything: 9% ALC/VOL, 72 IBUs, and yes, that’s our master brewer Jason Stock pitching in on the label.

Pour is a clear copper with a small white head. Aroma is a pine hop with a strong caramel malt backbone. Flavor is pretty much all malt with very little hop. Everything I hate with some IPA’s can be found in this beer. Way too heavy malt bill. Hops that have faded or can’t stand up to the malt. The best by date on the bottom of the can is 10/27/17, there is no way that can be correct. This tastes poor in the first week of August in the middle of October this could actually be worse? The alcohol is hidden well, that’s all the good I can say about this.

A lightly hazed golden amber DIPA with a thick frothy lacing light mocha head. In aroma, light caramel malt with resinous floral hops, grapefruit pulp, light tropical fruits, treacle, nice. In mouth, a nice caramel malt with light vinous notes, treacle, light butterscotch, resinous and piney hops, light pink grapefruit, pleasant.

Chris brought this one back for me from a trip to Utah. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a vibrant copper color with a large foamy orange-white head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was sweet with pine, resin and a sour caramel note. The flavor was sour caramel, pine, resin and tobacco. Long finish. Full bodied. Solid.

Squatters Hop Rising Double IPA 9% This 72 IBU beer comes fromSalt Lake City though I got it in a make your own mix six pack at Argonaut Liquors in Denver. The color is a bright orange-brass color with a thick beige head that leaves spotty soapy looking lacing behind. An aroma of sweet fruits and resinous pine cones. Full bodied with a fairly round carbonation. The taste is thick sweet malts, hoppy fruits (stone fruits) and woodsy pine. Well balanced and a good example of the style bitter but with enough of a backbone of malts to even things out. Good, I'd try other Squatters beers if I ever see any. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
