Rich in fruitcake aromas, almonds and conserved fruit. Adnams Broadside is a pint to savour. The deep copper colour, the fuller flavour and the premium ABV rewards the drinker in every mouthful.

Deep copper red in colour and slightly cloudy. Has a small sweet aroma but a dominant bitter character... albeit a mild one.

Cask at the Old Bell, Sawbridgeworth. Reddish brown pour with a glass hugging white head. Malty fruit aroma with a bitter, slightly metallic taste. A nice spicy refreshing ale, but not my favourite from Adnams.

Cask at the Tin Goose, LHR T1 - 24/08/12. Clear dark amber with a generous off-white head. This retained well married to ’mega’ lacing all over the inside of the glass. Sweet malts on the nose coupled with toffee, dark fruit and a little grass. Tastes predominantly of dark fruits, figs, prunes, caramel with a fudge undertone. Medium bodied, smooth drinking, creamy texture with a dark berry fruit flavour in the finish and a little bitterness. One of the best pints that you see around and about at pubs that aren’t neccessarily renowned for their beer range!

Cask @ The Champion, London. This is a clear bronze-amber one with a small off-white head. A bit low on the aroma, but I get some caramel and hints of ripe fruits. It's really soft carbonated, and it has a mild oily texture. Also some caramel in the flavor here. Light grassy with some near peach-thingy going on as well. Nice enough on this near chaotic evening. 20.07.2012

Pint from cask at the Bridge House in Belfast. Deep copper coloured with a creamy beige head. Aroma of lightly roasted malt, some hops and hints of dark fruits. Sweet and malty with a well balanced bitterness. Slightly creamy mouthfeel. Finishes with a lightly roasty flavour and a hoppy bitterness. Very pleasant and easy to drink. (2011-06-11)

This is my wife’s favourite beer! Well it was in August 2006: when I wrote this on BA. This is serious drinking beer, full of colour, full of powerful flavours and aromas. A dark ruby-red strong English Ale which demands respect. My wife and myself drink it in ’The Nelson’, Southwold. The pub is full of naval stuff, as you would expect, it is also only 400 yards from the brewery. The horse-drawn dray delivers to all the pubs in Southwold even to this day, a great sight. Adnams are pushing their beers into the ’Free Trade’ more and more at the moment and are expanding. Their beers are now available all over the UK. I have not detected any lowering of standards or tastes of any of their beers. I try them whenever I come across them, Broadside at its best, is a very very good beer.
