Our ideal IPA wasn’t on the menu, so we made it. Resisting piling up a variety of hops like toppings on a burger, we held the pickles and did things our way. Sandwiching together light malts, clean Cali ale yeast and early harvest Simcoe hops. Just what the brewers ordered.

[33cl can from Sainsbury’s, Bracknell.] A pale amber pour with a loose cream coloured head; tropical fruit aroma; tropical fruit taste, but slightly earthy and with a surprisingly thin body; then a fruity finish with some dryness. Pleasant, but nothing more.

Can from Sainsbury's. Lighter side of golden, clear with lots of visible carbonation and a thin film of white head. Orange and white grapefruit peel in the aroma, with a tpuch of bubblegum. Taste is bittersweet and full of citrus hop flavour. Turns surprisingly bitter and a little medicinal in the finish. Kumquat and tangerine in the aftertaste. Very highly carbonated. Nice IPA.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up at Waitrose. Pours totally clear gold with a foamy, white head. Really clean and drinkable, with nice tangerine, light bitter orange peel, grass nips of piney resin and peach. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Lightly resinous finish, more grassy bitterness, citrus accents. Solid all around.

Taste comprises airy malts, melon, tangerine, mellow tropical fruits, guava. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spiked with juicy hop bitterness. Decent easy drinking IPA.
