[backlog] 12-06-16 / bottle at home. Amber brown colour. Pretty sweet. Notes of honey, cherry, alcohol. Strong malt. I started rating my beers with Untappd and a few basic notes. Now I want to rate them on ratebeer. So my rating sometimes lack some information. Just ignore it, it is for my personal statistics. Untappd-Rating 2/5

*Old rating, best before 11.10.07. Schönes röstmalzig-süßliches Bier. Sehr süffig, schöne dunkle Früchte, Etwas wässrig, aber gut.

Hey, it looks like I can log my 5000th beer rating on Christmas day - HOW FORTUITOUS - what do I have on hand that I haven’t rated? - some cheap German Doppelbock with middling ratings? - FUCK IT; WE’LL DO IT LIVE - this beer is alright - smells kind of metallic, with notes of raisin and caramel - flavor is better - creamy texture - flavors of dark bread, raisin, toffee - slightly tart finish - meh - at least I’m at 5000 now - achievement unlocked - merry effing Christmas.

The Beer Store, Southampton 50cl: Pours dark amber with a slight off-white head. Aroma is dark fruit and a whole lot of sugar. Taste is rather sweet, and the finish is that of a dark sweet lager (oh surprise surprise). Some mild hop bit is present right before the finish and the astringency stays on your tongue for a bit. Aftertaste is similarly sugary. Not my favorite Doppelbock.

500 ml bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours crystal clear ruby/copper color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces t oa thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of raisin, plum, fig, apples, caramel, toast, brown sugar, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice aromas with good complexity and solid balance of dark/bready malt, earthy hops, and fruity yeast ester notes; with good strength. A bit too strong on the fruity notes in the aroma. Taste of caramel, toast, brown bread, raisin, plum, fig, brown sugar, light roast, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Slight earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, brown bread, raisin, plum, fig, brown sugar, light roast, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and robustness of dark/bready malt, earthy hops, and fruity yeast ester flavors; with a great malt/yeast balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Very clean on lager flavor. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good doppelbock style. Good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, earthy hop, and yeast fruitiness; and very smooth and crisp to drink for the ABV. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Bottle. Good and roasty, but just a tad on the thin side. Spontaneously delicious.
