Gruut White beer is very aromatic with a fragant fruity smell and a slightly herbaceous sharpness. The body is light, but soft. Thanks to the spices, the flavors are ‘round’, very fine and complex. The first impression is a spicy dryness, but there is also a slight, creamy sweetness underlying.

Nice unyellow vanilla look with sparkling carbonation and a hypnotizing sediment swirl. Smells somewhat like pennsylvania spring water. Smooth tasting with great carbonation. Easy and amicable. Has an odd finish on the back top of the throat, reminds me of rain water from a cistern. Pretty nice. Perhaps a little more of that off water mineral background than I’m used to.

@ Richmond/Williamsburg Gathering courtesy of LooseCannon, thanks Ron-11.2 oz bottle-pours a thin white head and hazy gold color. Aroma is lemon, musty yeast, light malt. Taste is lemon, musty yeast, light malt/wheat, some herbal. Mild carbonation. Enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours a light and hazy gold with a large and dense white head. Aromas and flavors are fairly typical... lemon, grass, wheat, yeast... although the wheat presence seems to come through stroger than in other wits, yielding to a bit of a citrus aftertaste/finish. Fairly light and refreshing.

Pours a glowing cloudy yellow, with a thick, soapy lace - aroma of mild lemon, complex notes of wildflowers and lightly bitter herbs, and an underlying yeasty and wheaty character - very soft, almost creamy mouthfeel - the flavor is a bit tart up front, with notes of lemon and some melon rind - develops a very mild character of bittering herbs in the middle - finishes with the expected spices, grainy/wheat flavor, a little bit of a chalky quality - not all I was hoping for, but a decent wit.

Bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville. Hazy lemon yellow color. Thick head produces nice lacing. Big wheat aroma with hints of citrus ans spice. Very smooth texture and taste. Citrus is heavy in the taste with a spicy and grainy finish. I’m not usually a fan of this style, but this is a good one.

11.2 oz bottle. Lemony wheat aroma. Very cloudy, light white-peach color. Very creamy and smooth mouthfeel, with a slight citrusy wheat taste that fades into a vanilla cream finish. Quite an excellent Wit, I’m glad to be the first to rate it here.
