Gruut White beer is very aromatic with a fragant fruity smell and a slightly herbaceous sharpness. The body is light, but soft. Thanks to the spices, the flavors are ‘round’, very fine and complex. The first impression is a spicy dryness, but there is also a slight, creamy sweetness underlying.

Hazy golden coloured body with a thin white head. Aroma of corn, coriander seed, alcohol, curacao and a touch of yeast - not too pleasant. Light-bodied; Mild wheatie flavours with some light sugars, a mild amount of cloves and some light fruit (bananas and lemons). Aftertaste is mild, but that’s what you’d expect from a wit - slightly acidic and showing some good malt characteristics. Overall, a nice beer, slightly mild compared to most others, but showing some good tastes throughout. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from German Gourmet in Falls Church, Virginia on 22-May-2010 for US$3.25, sampled on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 30-May-2010.

Bottle 33cl. @ home.Unclear hazy light to medium yellow color with a average to large, frothy, excellent lacing, fully lasting, white head. Aroma is light to moderate malty, wheat, citrus, moderate to light heavy lemon. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet, light acidic and moderate shell bitter with a long to average duration. fresh and easy as a spring beer. Body is light to medium, texture is watery, carbonation is soft. Feels a bit thin in the mouth [20090315]

33cl bottle from Dranken Geers. Soapy lemony and pretty poor to be honest. I do like this style but so many lack body as this one does and is too lemony soapy. Some interesting herby lemon flavour on the swallow. rest is pretty thin and poor.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of KimJohansen. Hazy pale yellow with a dense white head leaving laces. Lightly sweet coriander nose. Light body, a little flat, a little yeast and fruit. Finishes dry without any bitterness. 140509

Bottle, shared by Papsoe. It pours a hazy, milky yellow body under a small, white head. Soapy, citrusy nose with some grains. Slightly soapy flavor too, with grains and fruits and some citrus. Medium to thin body with a nice carbonation. As the Blond, it’s too grainy, and this one is rather boring too. (090514)

33 cL bottle. Pours hazy yellow with a small white head. Light chemical to spiced aroma. Yeasty and medium dry phenolic flavoured. Ends light wheaty and with a lasting spiced impression. Classic wit, yet a bit on the ordinary side.

Hazy yellow with a large white head. Aroma was sweet with fruity and yeasty notes. Flavour was sweet and yeasty with wheat and lemon notes. Finished sweet.

Bottle, 5%. Hazy pale yellow colour. Big stable chalk white head. The flavour starts off very mild. Has notes of tea/coriander, a little lemon in the finish. Very mild but OK.

Huge, dense white head over hazy, lemonjuice-like beer. Fine citrus and citruspeel aroma, some coriander. Very fruity taste, citrus, some sour apples, coriander, faint peppery, Szechuan pepper. Light MF, refreshing and lightly spritzy. Not at all bad witbier, quite good example for the style. Draught at the brewpub. Not better.

I had high expectation for this and was happy to finally come across a bottle. 12oz poured (stamped 39518) into a St. Paul snifter. Color is very milky straw, too hazy to see through it he carbonation is visible. Aroma is light perfume-y floral and light sweet cereal. Taste is light yeasty (faint dough) and has a light mineral finish. Easy drinking and light but actual not too interesting, I will want to revisit this with a fresh bottle in the future.
