Gruut White beer is very aromatic with a fragant fruity smell and a slightly herbaceous sharpness. The body is light, but soft. Thanks to the spices, the flavors are ‘round’, very fine and complex. The first impression is a spicy dryness, but there is also a slight, creamy sweetness underlying.

Pours white, almost colourless pale and foamless liquid. Aroma has some slight yeast character, a bit of orange peels. Taste has more orange peels with some ginger and coriander playing around - just as it should be in a decent Belgian wit. Some carbonation cleaning your palate. Aftertaste has some slight grapefruit seed bitterness, staying a bit longer. Overall, good summer beer, should also be good with some fish dishes.

33 cl bottle thanks to Johan and Åsa (not on ratebeer). Sampled on December 26, 2013.BB 09/09/15.Cloudy yellow color, fizzy white head. Herbal, faint spicy scent, hints of yeast and phenoles. Mineral, malty, a bit sweet, herbal taste. Herbal aftertaste. Fizzy mouthfeel, low bitterness.Rather mild, though sort of non distinct as well.

Dobre i mocno metne jak na belgian wit. Piana tez spora i sama rosnie w oczach. Wyrazny smak skorki pomaranczy, troche kolendry i posmaku musu bananowego. Zapach cytrusowy. Wysycenie spore, bardzo orzezwiajacy finisz.

Tap sample at the brewpub. Hazy pale yellow colour, dense white head. Aroma of sulphur, some sweet spices, coreander, creamy. Flavour is light acidic, lemon, sweet spices, light floral, wheat, light bitter finish. Light-bodied. Bad smell, nice taste.

Bottle from Yamaichi. Brilliant pastel golden, low, fine head. Malty, grainy nose, lemon and citrus, herbs. Decent. Nice malt flavor, wheat, cereals, honey. Citrus and spices. Relatively light, refreshing stuff. Not at all gimmicky or overdone. I like what they are doing with the gruut.

"Gruut Belgian Wit Beer", Fläschchen im Erasmus-Hotel, Gent, 16.9.2012. - Gelbweiß wie verdünnter Zitronensaft, trüb. - Etwas herbe Nase von Kräutern (laut Etikett mit "herbs" gebraut). - Erfrischend, mild, leichte Zitrusnote ohne Säure. Ganz leichte Bittere im Abgang. Als sommerlicher Durstlöscher sicher gut geeignet, aber für meinen Geschmack zu mild. - Note: 3.
