Very dark brown color, small off-white head. Slightly roasted and nutty aroma. Sticky hoppy, roasted coffeish flavor. Long bitter aftertaste. Light palate. A bit too attacking.

Cask conditioned at the Star, Bath 11/5/07. Dark brown with a slight beige head. Aroma contained hints of red fruit. Flavour was a bit subdued with some more fruit. Finish was of pronounced dryness. Ok.

Half pint on cask. Ink dark. Low head. Lack of aroma. Dark coffee and hop flavoured water. Very diluted and rather tasteless. Disappointing for a porter. We left some of it for the drain (Served far too chilled at Trafford Arms in Norwich 24.09.2006).

Cask at Trafford Arms Norwich 24 Sep 06. Pitch black. A tiny soapy head. Metallic flavour. Hopeless. The state of the beer is questionable. Must try to find it again!

Bottle: Named "Santa’s Christmas Porter". Very dark brown / black color, thick lasting beige head. Aroma is roasted with chocolate, dark fruit and distinct notes of earthy/dusty hops. Taste is roasted and malty with tobacco, chocolate pudding, perfectly balanced sweetness and a nice hoppy finish.

(Cask at Ship & Mitre, Liverpool, 24 July) Colour is very dark brown (not really black, but almost) with ruby notes, thick lasting beige head. Beautiful! Nose is roasted with chocolate, dark fruit and distinct notes of earthy/dusty hops. Taste is roasted and malty with tobacco, chocolate pudding, perfectly balanced sweetness and a nice hoppy finish. This beer can be a bit uneven, but this one was in almost perfect condition. Very nice!

500ml bottle. Very dark brown colour, disappearing beige head. Aroma of chocolate. Fine in mouth if a little grainy with more choc and some faint fruit flavours. Expected it to be a little more robust. Finish is not exactly sour, but watery really. It’s ok if not entirely stunning.

(Bottle 50 cl) Cloudy dark brown with the head being almost absent. Lovely malty nose, but not really burned - roasted at the most. Not much body either. Pronounced bitterness in the finish. 090905

Bottle: Poured a dark, but not completely black as expected, colored beer with a nice huge head with good retention. Aroma is mix of sweetness resembling port and some alcohol. Carbonation is good and body is quite thin with what I usually expect from a porter. Taste is light roastiness and coffee and more malts then expected. Overall, this is a very unusual porter but a very enjoyable beer.
