Our location, on the northern California coast, is in close proximity to the migratory path of gray whales and the southern habitat of orcas. The plight of Steller sea lions and their declining populations is an issue that resonates with us. This is also the birthplace of whale activism.
In the spirit of the Mendocino Whale Wars of the late 1960s and early 70s, North Coast Brewing is pledging a portion of the proceeds of every bottle and keg of North Coast Steller IPA to marine mammal research and rescue through the North Coast Brewing Company Marine Mammal Research Fund, a project of The Ocean Foundation.
Like muscat, spruce tips, and pennyroyal, North Coast Steller IPA is redolent of resinous terpenes: myrcene, linalool, pinene, and geraniol.

How did I get to taste this rare beer from the westy coast? Brixton, clear yellow. Ever so slight BO aroma, like, well you know. Big bitter roto tiller plowing blast in the palate. Perhaps not as fresh I was expecting. Of course, as with any full blown IPA, this has a lasting rude nasty IPA impression. If you like EYE-PEE-AYE, you got to get this, JMH of a not so ipa specialist IPA O. I’ll never get used to this preservative style.

Tap at the California Brewers Showcase Festival. Pours translucent dark gold with a creamy white head. Aroma is hoppy - seems mostly citrus. Med +body. Flavor is citrus, earth, floral and a decent caramel backbone. This is an ale with a serious and tasty hop bite.

On tap at VCBW Fest, pours a clear orange with a small white head. Nose brings out spicy hops, some prominent biscuity maltiness, and herbal notes. Flavour is quite strange, with herbal skunky hops, some wheat and a very spritzy quality. Not very pleasant - weirdly herbal and spicy. Okay.
