Warning! Early amateur rating! Bottle in Raratonga. Fairly full on lager. Rich malt and slightly bitter. Full bodied but overall nothing special.

11.15 ounce green bottle - wtf? - lightly hazy gold with a soapy head - smell of light honey, yeast and lightly skunky hops - damn you green bottle -damn you to hell! - lightly sweet up front, but dries out pretty fast - dusty yeast character - moderate bitterness - faint acidity - finishes a bit grassy and grainy - as with most pale lagers, it isn’t anything all that good, but certainly better than the overall score suggests - would probably be fairly good fresh.

Bottle. Poured piddle yellow with thick fast dissipating head. Very little lacing. Aroma is a little grassy hop, a little malt, a little skunk. Light bodied, malt flavour marred by greasiness. Malty finish would have been better without more greasiness. Maybe I’m drinking this in the wrong hemisphere

330ml bottle from Westholme Stores, Goring. Typical Germanic style lager. Pale straw in colour with a billowing white head that falls back very quickly; grassy aroma; grainy flavour; and a weakly bitter straw-like finish. I hope this isn’t "New Zealand’s finest lager".

11.15 oz bottle into English pint. Classic green bottle skunk aroma. Cheap grain, also. Pours a clear golden hue with a thick dissipating head that leaves a scrim of foam and nice spotty lace. Big bubbles float to the surface. Taste is skunk, corn, a little sweet. Slightly above your average macro, but not much. Medium-high carbonation, creamy mouthfeel. Better than average for this style, but I’ll never buy it again (I only bought it to get New Zealand on the map).

Whenever someone says "world’s best beer" on the label I know it’s not going to be good. Average pale lager. Yellow. Pale malts nose and palate. Rated 3/22/2000

"Steinlager® is a lager with a distinctive grassy note and clean crisp bitterness of green bullet hops. It is balanced with a dry, astringent finish." - Commercial Description. Sure... all I can say is that is pure bs. Had a skunky feel and lousy aftertaste. Bland and dissapointing.

33 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden yellow with a small and chalk white head. Aroma is light citrusy and grassy, rather crisp and inviting. Citrusy, light cornish and crisp grassy bitter flavoured. Medium dry and vague citrusy flavoured finish. Good pale lager.
