Bottle - Bittersweet chocolate, more sweet than bitter, and some syrupy notes. Deep brown with a rich light brown head. Dark bitter chocolate, and nice sweetness and a light bitter finish. Very light body considering the bold taste.

330 ml bottle. Pours a deep dark brown with moderate head. Aromas of dry roasted malts, nutella, and sweetened chocolate. Flavors of black coffee, heavily roasted malts,, nuts and grass, Light mouthfeel with a sweet dry finish. A bit thin but very porterish and quite nice.

Cask @ Scarbrough Hotel, Leeds. Nicholson’s Beer Festival. Very dark with a thin creamy light-brown head. Has a medium to full roasted aroma and is a medium bodied ale, and has a fair dark-malty taste with a gentle sweetness attached. Light marmalade notes are responsible for this. Also revisited it through the bottle version bought as a Christmas present for me.

Magpie, Nicholsons. Cask. Clear deep red - brown beer. Decent bubbly pale tan head. Palate is smooth and dry. Fine carbonation. Smooth and mild dark malts. No roast or bitterness. Citric peel bitterness. Whisper of something earthy. Dry finish with a mild bitter hop linger. Not bad but wanted it to be sweeter and too dry.

Cask at the haymarket bar... Dark black.. Small tan head... Deep bitter roast malt... Soft orange nose.. Dark fruits.. Dark roast... Nice soft gentle roast... Light bitter finish
