A rich dark ale, with an underlying maltiness, and a subtle fruit aroma, ideal for keeping the chill of Winter at bay. The roasted barley and pale chocolate malt give a deep red hue, the hop combination of Progress, Styrian Goldings and Cascade create bitterness with a soft spicy yet fruity edge.

355ml bottle at Alex's. Pours a clear brown with a beige head. Aroma is fruity and roasted malt. Similar taste with roasted malt aftertaste. Quite pleasant.

Bottle in Oldmeldrum thanks to Claire & Karl. It pours clear darkest brown with a small beige head. The aroma is toasty, earthy, wood, cacao, dried fruits, treacle, burnt toffee, cola. The taste is pretty fruity upfront, tangy blueberry, fruit cake, day, tannin, earthy, wood, treacle, cola and leather with a drying finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Pretty fruity and easy drinking.

Has almost a sweetness to the roasty malts, dark berry-like flavours. Good beer, there are no glaring issues with it at all. The flavours are mild, but all mesh well. 2016 advent calendar.

Fluffy beige head stayed on a near black still body - Looks Great! Minimal aroma - slightly malty. Thick creamy texture, velvety - very moorish. Sweet dark fruit flavours with creamy coffee, brown sugar plum & cocoa.

330mL bottle, pours a deep dark brown with a small white head. Aroma brings out toasted malt, with bready notes and light toffee. Flavour is along the same lines, with toasted malt, bready notes, and light toffee. Nicely constructed, but not very deep or complex. Decent.

Canadian Edition, of course. Medium-brown colour, a touch of haze. Toffeeish, fruity...very English. Thereโs a whiff of alcohol in there as well. A bit flat, and that makes it a bit crackery, with a hint of the toffee. But itโs too bad the sugars arenโt coming through on the palate as much as the nose promises.

330ml bottle from 2016 craft beer advent calendar. Pours a clear red-brown with a thin, short lived, beige head that leaves spotty lacing. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, caramel and dried fruit. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, chocolate, dark fruit, licorice and caramel with a dry, mildly bitter finish. Light body with a watery texture and flat carbonation. Ok, but I was expecting more from this one.

Bottle - Dark roasty malts, some caramel, toffee and cocoa. Deep maroon with a small white head. Dark and roasty with some toffee and cocoa, but a thin body that really leaves you wondering where it all went.

Bottle at TJโs Diner. Ruby body with a thin beige head. Good lacing. Aroma of caramel, plum and copper. Flavour of stewed tea, fruit pudding, treacle and burnt caramel. Thin to medium body with a slick mouthfeel. Soft fizz. Sweet and moreish.
