Brewed with our friends at Magic Rock, Solitaire is a seriously juicy Double NEIPA.

No expense has been spared on this bad boy with a huge dry hop of Galaxy, Aloha, Citra Cryo, El Dorado and Denali. These are carried by the base of pale malt, wheat and oats to create a super rich, tropical hop bomb.

On tap at Old Taipa Tavern, pours a cloudy golden yellow with a small head. Nose doesn't smell very IPA-like, with maybe a touch of spicy hops, gentle fruitiness and lots of dryness biscuity malt. Flavour confirms the aromatic impression, with dry biscuity malt, light citrusy and spicy hops, and some stone fruit juiciness. Low residual sweetness, which I'm fine with, but could use more hops. Whatever it is, it's solid.

Can sample at a tasting at troubles' place. Thanks troubles. Cloudy yellow. Nice tropical fruity hops, a bit sweetish, nice bitterness, a bit green, medium-bodied. Nice.

Tap @ Beer Boy, Nakameguro. Pours hazy orange, some white foam on the top, hazy, hazy, hazy. Fruity tropics, bubble gum and some lupulin spark in the nose. Taste is fruity but dry, good grassy overall feel, light bitterness, guava, grass. I do like this one, lupulin dust is not very strong but bitterness is quite right and lingers a bit into the finish. Tasty and satisfies, abv is nowhere to be felt.

Tap at Mikkeller Ari, Bangkok. Poured a murky light brown colour with a thin broken white head. The aroma is grainy malt, citrus, floral hop. The flavour is moderate sweet light bitter with a fresh crisp, fruity dry pepper spice, dry floral hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. It’s easy to see the Magic Rock influence here.

Can from Brewcraft at home. Amazing that we have such variety and quality of HK beers nowadays. Tried this on tap at the Globe a few weeks back and is better in cans maybe. Hazy peach-apricot with minimal white head. Aroma is big stone fruit, mango, melon, NEIPA zestiness. Taste is similar - lemon, unripe orange, peach, melon, zest, mineral-y bitterness. Palate is smooth with fine carbonation. Bitter finish that’s a bit dry at the end, some mild alcohol warmth. Would be interesting to try alongside Carbon Brews’ Crazy Rich Lupulins, another HK NEIIPA. Thinking that’d be more zesty and citrusy, while this more melon and mango. Very good and would get again, regardless. Adjusted slightly after trying alongside the Carbon Brews Crazy Rich Lupulins, which is similar - both very good. Solitaire has a bit more emptiness in comparison, and a more lemon/unripe orange profile. I prefer the Carbon Brews but would get this again too.
