Bottle from Delhaize. Pours clear golden with a stable, thin, foamy, white head. Aroma of corn syrup, grain, yeast, toasted white bread, apple peel, banana candy, apricot. Taste is a sweet white sugary profile comprising dried apricot, banana & apple, white bread malts underneath with a metallic touch, weird bitter herbal-chemical notes in the back as well as a faint sourish accent. Dry, grassy, bit earthy hoppy finish, rather grainy & yeasty but retronasal bread & ripe yellow fruit linger. Boozy vodka effect in the very end. Medium body, slick texture, lively carbonation. Another redundant, sweet, yeasty, boozy 'Belgian Strong' but to be preferred over Leffe, Affligem, the likes.

Goudkleurig bier met schuim. Smaak is bitter hoppig en licht kruidig zoet met iets van graan. Goed biertje.

Thick, lightly yellowish head over crystal clear golden beer, not very carbonated. Typical pale malts & rice Inbev-style aroma, with just a bit leafy more-fresh hints. Sweet - with a faint bitterish ending and almost no aftertaste. Pale malts, slightly toasted, just hinting at alcohol. Quite slick, almost sticky. Medium bodied, almost undercarbonated. Alcoholsweetness but no -warming. No. It's again from the boooooring Stella mold. They just can't get it right, can they? And if those 10 yeastcells must have performed bottle conditioning, they must have been gasping minutes after bottling. Thanks to Stef!

New AB InBev beer, a kind of 'edelbier', didn't see this coming to be honest... Bottle from the Carrefour supermarket near the Sint-Pieters train station in Ghent. Very thick and foamy, egg-white, rocky, plaster-like lacing head, lightly hazy pure 'old gold' robe with vivid sparkling. Aroma initially dominated by sharp carbon dioxide, but quickly shifting to impressions of banana, white bread dough, freshly cut celery, cooked potatoes, flour, old coriander seed, bubblegum, green pear, parsnip, young 'jenever', clove, withering garden weeds, sweaty note. Sweetish onset with strongly bubblegummy banana ester dominating over hints of pear and green apple, fizzily carbonated with a slick body, feeling lighter than 8.5% ABV. Cereally pale malt sweetishness with a flour-like aspect to it (was flour added here to create haze, as in e.g. Hoegaarden Witbier?); white candi sugariness too of course, with that bubblegummy and banana sweetishness lingering on. Simple grassy hop bitterish touch in the end, but more bitterness from 'jenever'-ish alcohol, even if it refrains from burning too much; strong 4-vinyl-guaiacol (clove) as well as hints of coriander seed and very vague dried citrus peel. Clearly AB InBev's answer to the commercial success of 'edelbieren' like Duvel and Omer (surely it is not a coincidence that Duvel was called 'Victory Ale' many decades ago, and that this Victoria's label depicts an angel, as te opponent of the devil!); there is something artificial to it, a light chemical and unnatural twist somewhere, but this is relatively subtle here, resulting in a beer that is overall more drinkable than any of the Leffe abbey beers, for example (perhaps with the exception of Leffe Triple). A bit better than feared, but still a bland, boring and unnecessary mass-marketed industrial strong ale.

33cl bottle from Carrefour market @ in Tervuren near Brussels. F: big, white, long lasting. C: gold, light hazy. A: malty, fruity, bit spicy, orange peels touch, floral. T: medium to full malty base, medium to high carbonation, vaguely fruity, bit spicy, grainy, alcohol touch, nothing memorable at all.
