Darkness – The Prince of Ales lives up to its name; black as midnight, this is a well balanced but complex chocolate stout. Deliciously smooth, made with English Goldings hops, Chocolate malt, Roasted Barley and rich dark molasses.
The rich bitter-chocolate taste of Darkness® is created using a complex mash of premium malts including Chocolate Malt, which derives its characteristic coffee/chocolate flavour and aroma from subtle roasting during the malting process.

Bottle from brewery shop. Very deep ruby almost black colour with no head. Aroma is chocolate, malt, and toffee. Taste is sweet toffee, with a fruity depth.

Cask at the Merchants Inn, Rugby, 16/09/15. Light black with a decent beige head that retains well. Nose is chocolate malt, light roast, charr, spice, toffee. Taste comprises toffee, brown bread, roast malt, Chocolate. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close. Decent stout.

bottle from Topsham Wines. Deep black with a dense beige head. Malty and chocolatey with a good bitter finish. Well balanced.

Handpull cask at Live and Let Live, Cambridge. Very dark purplish brown with an impressive tan head. Liquorice, plums, coffee on the nose. Sweet taste with a slight chalky bitter/umami in the background. Strong espresso, hot milk, basil and more liquorice. A hint of port. Nice body, not terribly thick but responsive to the tongue. Extremely nice.

Cask at The Maltings, York. Pours black with a thick tan head. Nice coffee and dark chocolate aromas. Sweet chocolate taste initially, roasted bitterness at the back end. Nice stout.

Bottle 500ml.Clear dark black brown colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting to diminishing, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, chocolate malt, chocolate, moderate roasted. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long to average to long duration, chocolate, dark berry, sod notes. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. Bottled@chriso. Very deep copper colour, close to black. Small brown head. Aroma is chocolate, some roasted malts, liquorice and mild rosegarden notes. Flavour is roasted malts, chocolate, toffee, some mild dark berries and mild ashyness. Quite pleasantly balanced and refreshing beer.

Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of Alice BS. Pours an opaque black with a small beige head. Hard roasted malt in the nose with a whiff of peaty smoke. Medium body, hard roasted malt, dark bitter chocolate and again discreet notes of smoke. Solid malt bitter finish. 051011
