Smooth and malty dark mild for drinking in quantity! Fruity and full – the use of roast barley in the mash provides not only deep-ruby colour, but also a subtle, clean and dry flavour.

On gravity at the Hillgrove Porter Stores, Bristol 2/11/07. Tried as part of the HPS’s beer festival, this was black with a red tinge and a decent off-white head. Slight blackcurrant aroma with plenty of roasty notes. Slightly sweet taste with an earty hop finish. Good.

Cask at Merton Summer Beer Festival 07-07-07. Dark brown with slight red hue. This beer was a very popular beer and seemed to go down very well particulalry amongst the darker beer fans. A nice slightly fruity aroma, was followed by some pleasant roasted flavours, very tasty with some dark summer fruits coming through. I didn’t rate this as highly as some but to be fair I didn’t really have enough to do it justice having only had a few sips, but very good nonetheless.
