Pours light brown with reddish hues, still quite transparent. Two fingers of rather dense slightest off-white head, good retention and very nice lacing. Nice looking beer. Not much intensity in the aroma: a mainly nutty malt base with a kinda soft, slightly dough-like dark bread element, a hint of spiciness and a sugary feel. Taste notes follow the aroma, with half nutty, half bready malts and a quite vivid sugary feel taking the main stage, plus some spiciness in the background. Quite sweet in the mouth with it's sugary character, but showing hints of herbal/tea altbier-like bitterness in a quite dry, cleansing finish. Quite light in body with classicly delicate german carbonation; very easygoing on the mouth. A fairly sugary but still balanced example of the style, not much intensity (at least in this bottle).

As Breitelesauer Lager. Very dark coppery-brown, clear body, thick off-white head. Creamy, lean, lightly raisiny dark bread aroma, soft. Soft, lightly bubbly taste, chocolatey grainy touches, vague soapy-flowery hoppy undertones. Supremely drinkable actually, this is impressive! Won't won any prizes for complexity but it works so well!

500 ml bottle. Chestnut brown with a fluffy head. Caramel, nuts, citrus, toasted malt, basement notes, pumpernickel, wort. Mild dry bitterness, malty sweetness. Light bodied, oily watery texture, soft to low carbonated, mild dry finish. Rather mild and smooth Dunkles, not too special though.

Tap. Dark golden brown. Bread, malty, a bit quince. Soft and sweet, a bit too sweet; sticky aftertaste. Nearly enough front bitterness to balance this out. Oddly drinkable.

500ml bottle purchased at Beers of Europe and drunk at home. Reddish brown and clear with a fluffy white head. Toasty malt in the aroma, some powdered chocolate and a little hint of redcurrant. Sweet taste, more chocolate malt notes with some hoppy bitterness in the chalky finish. Light body, heavy carbonation. A better-than-average dunkel with some personality.

Bottle. Pours clear dark copper brown with airy light tan head. Clear aroma of caramel and yeast, with notes of malt and touches of hops. Sourish flavour with notes of yeast and touches of nuts and caramel. Rather low carbonation. Bitter and grainy aftertaste with acidic hints. Not fresh anymore (6 months past the BBD). Perhaps a re-rating would be a good idea.
