A classic Sussex beer. Could drink this for hours, the taste of home. Wholesome tasting yet remaining light. (5-4-7-5-17 on 8th March 17) Definitely still a taste of home for me and supremely drinkable. It definitely flitters however for me between being one of the best bitters ever made to an above average ale. Anyway, it is always smooth, slightly sweet. Not overwhelmed this time sadly (6-4-7-3-15 on 20th April 17 on cask at the Lamb Inn) Rerated. Took from a growler from the brewery. 3.7 to 3.9. Nothing can beat the gluggability of sussex best (8/11/18) Rerated at Royal Oak, Borough, London. it is the perfect bitter. so balanced. malts, sweetness, hops. sublime. 3.9 to 4.1 (24/4/19) ---- Rerated on cask at horse ans groom rushlake green. a superb ale 4.1 to 4. (29/12/19) ---- Rerated on cask at the Londonesborough in Stoke Newington London. More maltty and moorish on this occasion. Also drunk at Ashburnham pub in Sussex and the Lamb Eastbourne this trip. Kept at 4. (4/10/2020) --- Re rated cask at Coach and Horses, Danehill. Typically fantastic Sussex best. Some paint in aroma though. 4 to 3.7. (15/10/21) --- Re-rated, bottle from the brewery. Intensely apple aroma. Mahogany look. Like a more tinny version of the beer on cask -really is a case of two different beers here. 3.7 to 3.3. (Hate to give such a rating for Sussex Best but I'm sure one cask rating will rectify). (3/1/23) --- Cask at The Hursts Arms, Eastbourne. 3.3 to 3.4.

Can from Bison Beers. It pours clear copper with a small white head. The aroma is earthy, wood, rivita, cereal, toasted grain and bread flakes. The taste is dry, mellow bitterness, cereal, bean flakes, rivita, earth, leather, brown bread and light spice with a dry finish. Light body and fine carbonation. Drinks very easy, but lacks the character and depth of the cask version.

Draft at the Cheshire Cheese. Medium amber pour, small,soft creamy head. Gentle aroma and taste, pure malts, soft and smooth. Nice textures. Nice atmosphere.

Handpump at White Horse on Parson's Green in London. Amber clear pour, ivory foam with drafts. Nose: some metal (?!), yeast and burnt bread. Mouth: watery, mild nutty, little bitter finish. Solid ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Light citrus and some malt. Decent drinkability. Amber pour. Light tangy finish. Cask at churchkey.

Signature Harvey's.in epic condition. A tad sulphuric taste but this is to be expected when you recycle yeast like they do.

Copper colored, clear, small off white soapy head. Aroma is carabiscuit, fruity and some floral. Taste is caramel malt, biscuit, fruits, floral low to medium bitterness, biscuit doughy finish. Dryish. Light to medium bodied, soft carbonation.

Cask. Golden amber color, white head. Aroma of toast, caramel. Taste has lightly bitter caramel. Decent.

Cask @ pub in Rye. Hazy amber colour, white foam. Bready with notes of caramel. Bitter hoppy finish. Well balanced. Ok

Cask, from a fresh barrel. Appearance is dark brown, hints of amber, clear, with a small bubbly head. Aroma- brown bread, raisin, caramel malt. Taste is smooth, slightly chewy, dark fruit hints, bread, caramel, some nuttiness, undercurrent of hop bitterness. Perfect bitter in many ways.
