500ml bottle - A dark mahogany body with lacy white head, smoky nose with a hit of espresso in there, a solid body with a malty after taste. One of the best milds I’ve had this year.

500ml Bottle: best before the end of August 2012, poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard on the last day of July 2012, one month before it’s BBD. Good looking brew: dark brown body with a full, deep tan coloured head on top. Coffee in the nose along with some roasted malty molasses (but without the sweetness). Chocolate notes arrived as the beer warmed. The taste was all malt with a hop bitterness always there in the mix. Fruit cake with chocolate and nutty hints: add a malt loaf and you’ve almost got the flavours I found. Smooth rather than creamy in the mouthfeel, a pleasant Mild all round.

50cl bottle from Beer City, batch#2734, BB 11/2012.

Clear dark brown beer. Whsiper of toffee malt on the nose. Light semi dry palate, quite airy. Nice hops - tangerine with a dash of lime. Underpinned by nutty malt. Finishes a little soft with a trace of bubblegum. A decent beer but that fact this was a GBBF winner tells you everything you need to know about the conservative nature of the British Camra beer scene.

Cask at the Falcon, Claphm Junction. Deep ruby colour with a scummy looking cream head; aroma of deep roasted malts with a hint of chocolate; rich chocolate malt flavour with a floury body; a gentle but deep bitterness balances against the sweet purple fruit, before a long dry finish. An excellent mild.

Gravity cask at the Bree Louise. Pours a clear, ruby-brown with no head. A bit of roasty malts and dark fruits in the aroma. Very good, balaned flavor. Certainly dark, roasty malts, sweet toffee, brown sugar, mild coffee, some leafy bitterness. Light bodied with soft carbonation. Semi-dry, roasted malt finish with some nice sugars, slight bread, slight leafy bitterness. Solid beer.
