Chimera, the many headed beast: light, crisp, deceptively bitter with flowering fruit aromas

Can from the Booking Office. Appearance - golden with a nice fluffy head. Nose - sweetcorn, then orange barley water. Taste - more orange barley water. Palate - light bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - it doesn’t have many high points as such but pretty balanced and refreshing.

Can at home in London - sourced from Royal Mile Whiskies, Holborn. Pours totally clear yellow-gold with a frothy, pure white head. The aroma holds licks of pithy citrus, biscuits, lemon rind, grapefruit. Light sweet flavour with light bitter pine needles, some more biscuits, pale grains, pith, crackers, a little lemony tang, mild piney and melony dankness. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Finishes with some pale, bready sweetness, low bitterness, more citrusy hops, crackers. Quite enjoyable.

Can at Drygate. It pours clear golden with a decent white head. The aroma is fresh, juicy, lemon parfait, orange marmalade, grapefruit, white bread and sweet lagery malts. The taste is smooth, crisp, clean, grapefruit, pithy lemon, green grassy notes, alcohol boost, floral and white bread with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Really like the balance. Tasty.

500ml bottle from Aldi(!) Cloudy yellow with a foamy white head. Aroma is asparagus with some citrus and spice. Taste is similar, although the more I drank the less asparagus-y it got and the more citrus-y. Dry and bitter aftertaste. Complex, interesting but nor sure I’d want more than one

Cloudy amber beer with a bitter aroma of tropical fruit. Flavour follows suit, though there’s another flavour in there which is quite strong but I can’t actually work out what it is. Quite tasty though I’m not a huge fan of the strength of the aftertaste.
