Chimera, the many headed beast: light, crisp, deceptively bitter with flowering fruit aromas

33cl can from Sainsbury's, Bracknell. Straw coloured with a billowing cream head; grassy citrus aroma; sweet citrusy taste with some tropical fruit and a metallic bitterness; then a sharp grapefruity finish. Better than expected.

Can from Sainsburys, Cobham, Surrey. A golden coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Unusual style this, hoppy, citrus, lemon aroma. The taste is similar, hoppy, citrus, lemon, hint of orange. Quite tasty.

Can. Sainsbury’s. Clear gold. Thin, lasting, white head. Nose has pale malts. Some light hop spice. Bit of a peppery thing. Taste is fairly sweet, with enough crisp bitterness to match. Ok mouthfeel. A bit clarty and heavy for style. More spicy hop to finish.

Can from Sainsbury’s, Bedford. Dark gold, hazy, with a decent amount of white head. Floral hop with pineapple and loquat notes. Bittersweet taste with a heavy malt base. Long finish with more tropical fruit mixed with Horlicks. Medium carbonation. Not too bad, a bit heavy on the palate for the style though.

Can from Sainsburys, Thetford. Only the vaguest aroma - something yeasty. Bright gold. Thin white head. Medium bitter. Umami undertones. Light body. Slick, a certain denseness. Fizzy carbonation. Long finish. A refresher.

Keg at The Blackjack Brewery, Manchester, Saturday 1st April 2017 in the company of Dad and Barry. Hazy sunshine gold there is a slim white rim of bubbles and an island of film atop. Amazed that this is a lager, I guess it is a hoppy lager, soft mouthfeel, good clarity, good beer. A6 A4 T7 P3 Ov14 3.4
