(bottle) Dark brown colour with a short beige foamy layer. Moderately sweet roast-malty aroma with notes of caramel and dark chocolate. Light-bitter flavour, light bodied with a smooth carbonation. 50 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden deep brown with a small orange glare and a small tan head. Aroma is roasted and dark chocolate. Mild acidic. Dark and dry roasted chocolate malt flavoured. Lingering roasted malt chocolate finish.

Cask at the White Swan, Highbury, London on 3rd January 2010. Dark red with cream coloured semi-lacing foam head. Malty with some roasted malts and a little nutmeg spice. A hint of aniseed. Not overly sweet, and indeed a dry finish ensues on a fairly lively mouthfeel. Pleasant beer. Re-rating 2015. Cask at the Old Eagle, Camden Town on 7th December 2015. Sepia with pale brown head and scant lacing. Sweet roast malt aroma. Full on roasted sweet malts in-mouth with burnt toffee flavours. A nutty, malty finish. Rather light in mouthfeel and body.

Bottle, kindly excavated by Quack-Duck ! Deep ruby amber coloured with a small, slowly diminishing beige head. A mix if dry roasted malt and sweetish caramel malt < with a tinge of cacao > in the nose. Moderate bitter and slightly sourish flavour, light bodied. Short bitter-fruity finish with toasted malt and chocolate. Nice brew, a bit slim.......

First rating(50 cl bottle at Haket, Göteborg) On April 23, 2008. Clear dark red color, small tan head. Sweet, butterscotch, fruity, roasted, metallic scent. Also salty and chocolate. 500ml bottle from Waitrose. Dark chestnut; poured absolutely flat, with no head at all; chocolate aroma; thin body with thin tastes, some chocolate and coffee, but mainly water. Pleasant enough but lacking any fizz.

[i] Bottle, Ken Sheathers Wines, Leckhampton, Cheltenham. Had this 29-12-07 [/i] Nice malty aroma and a pleasantly malty beer, this was more mild territory than stout, a bit watery, but even so I rather liked this, subdued bitterness but nice all the same.
