Imperial Golden Ale with Coffee, Cocoa Nibs, Vanilla and Milk Sugar
Take in the wonder that is the marvelous – ahem – “marvelroast” new addition to our coffee beer lineup. We started with an imperial golden ale and brewed it with coffee, vanilla and cocoa nibs. But it doesn’t end there, folks. Milk sugar added during the brewing process lends a smooth and sweet finish, making this a delicious treat reminiscent of your favorite iced coffee drink.

12 ounce bottle from Founders Northland, 7.24.20. Hazy orange thin foamy white head good retention. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, vanilla, nuts. Taste is caramel, coffee, nuts. Medium bodied, crisp, booze well hidden. A bit too sweet but pretty decent.

$2.80 bottle, WW. Gold, tiny floaters, tiny white head. Roasted coffee beans, milk chocolate, vanilla, cocoa, light green grass nose. Flavor is creamy milk chocolate, coffee beans, cocoa, vanilla, cream... holy shit this is unexpectedly good (unexpected because I was basically thinking golden stout, which just doesn't work). Good balance - not too sweet nor bitter, strong flavors, but not artificial.

12 ounce bottle. Orange amber pour is bright and clear. Large foamy beige head. Strong coffee aroma has hints of vanilla and cocoa. Bittersweet toasted malt flavor. Notes of sweetened coffee and vanilla. Sticky mouthfeel. Bitter hop finish has boozy notes.

12oz bottle. Fairly unique creature, not unlike the unfortunate White Stouts of a few years back, but with more going on. Big coffee tone, big cacao, sugary vanilla as well. Full bodied, quite sugary. Just all around too heavy with the adjuncts, but delicious at the same time. Quite clean in some respects from the filtration, but the heavy, thick, sugary finish makes it one I probably won't revisit. Fun to try, but a little too malt beverage for me. Scores high.

Bottle from Holiday Market. Pours a clear gold with a full finger of fluffy white foam that lingers. Lots of milk chocolate and vanilla iced brownie on the nose with coffee as it warms. More of the same on the palate with a coffee and creamer character. A little booze comes out as it warms up. Coffee and cacao lingers on the finish with some medium bitterness.
