"A smooth, creamy ale." Introduced in 1994 as a 4.8% Irish Ale by Bass at Caffrey’s Ulster brewery, and promoted strongly with an advertising campaign of "strong words softly spoken". Interbrew took over in 2000, soften the recipe and attempted to catch the lager market, using a new promotion of "a storm brewing". Coors acquired the brand in 2002. Initially contract brewed by Interbrew for Coors at Ulster, the brand eventually moved to Coor’s Tower Brewery in Tadcaster.

13/10 A 0.44 l nitro can from the English store in Antibes. It poured almost copper body with typical nitro cascade yellow head. Fine malty biscuity aroma. Weak flavor with some biscuit, caramel and vanilla. Would be nice actually if not so thin bodied. Finish was short and watery, without much here for real. Nothing unpleasant, at contrary. But this brew, as it’s now, it’s ultimately boring.

[Nitrokeg at O’Neills, Reading] Pours amber with a moderate creamy nitrohead. It’s years since I last drank this, and I remembered it as being very bland, so I was quite surprised to find some flavour in there. Light malt aroma. Smooth (thanks to the nitro) but watery mouthfeel. Tastes initially a little lemon, then a sudden hint of honey before caramel and that fake squirty cream take over. The bitter metallics of pasteruisation once again ruin what might be an OK (if not great) beer. Better than most keg bitters though.

Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, toffee, perfume, moderate yeasty, english top fementatet yeast. Flavor is moderate to light light heavy sweet with a average duration. Very syntetic and perfumed. Can, smooth creamy head which lasts and lasts, again thanks to the widget. clear light copper colour, ;ight barnyard aroma with some oxidised tones. strong bitterness upfront giving way to some fruity notes and traces of honey wax, light soury aftertaste. not really to complex, but quite smooth and satisfying.

(10/8/08) Draught at Heathrow airport in London. Clear amber color with a small white head. A rather malty aroma with some bread, light caramel, some grainy notes and a bit of hops. Sweetish flavor with some malt, bread and finishes with light hoppy bitterness and some metal. Quite light-bodied and watery. Drinkable but not good.
