Jeff Bagby has travelled to Everards Brewery (Leicestershire) to re-create this deep golden beer especially for this Wetherspoon real-ale festival. The malt and hop aromas lead to a balance of nutty, biscuit malt notes and a firm bitterness, resulting in a pleasing, crisp, clean character.

Cask @ Paramount, Manchester. Golden-amber with a creamy head. Hoppy, slightly soapy aroma and taste, but this also provides a smoothness.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol March 2017. Deep gold in colour, with a small, off-white, head. Ripe orange fruits, ripe digestive malts and a touch of citrus hop, before a dryish finish. Good.

On cask @ the Booking Office. Appearance - golden with a decent head. Nose - light caramel and some orange. Taste - more orange and there’s toffee biscuits. Palate - light bodied with a creamy middle section that continues through the finish. It could be fresher on the finish. Overall - more of a Bitter than a golden ale. It lacked the floral and citrus notes to be honest.

Third of a pint in my local Wetherspoons on 27th March 2017. Clear golden pour, off-white head that gave some impressive lacing. Weak blend of biscuity maltiness and hop bitterness. I am sorry to say I thought it bland and watery: being kind I’ll call the flavours ’subtle’ and the mouthfeel ’thin’.
