A few times a year we cut Dan loose to brew whatever he chooses. Always handcrafted, the bottle you hold is brewed for the adventurous soul. This is a very limited edition and we make no promises to ever brew this style again.
A complex and intriguing original. The mystery began with wild yeast spontaneously fermenting a rich treasure of malted barley and cherries. Unlined Oak casks breathe deep vanilla hues and chords of smoke into this sour brown ale. Our Master Brewer has forged a smooth garnet tapestry that defies description. Wander off the beaten path.

Bottle. Pours clear reddish amber, medium beige head that dissipates with minimal lacing. Aroma is tart cherry, bit of funk. Flavor is tart cherry, light balancing sweetness, light wood notes. Medium body, prickly carbonation. Very nice.

12 oz. bottle, sent from FullObs (thanks a lot, Brett), pours an opaque rusted red colour with a small beige head. Nose is quite acidic and vinegary, with a fair amount of sour fruitiness. There is some oak and vanilla buried further underneath. Flavour reveals a finer balance between sweer and sour than I expected based on the nose, with oak barrels, vanilla, slightly soured fruits, sweet fruits as well (cherries especially), and some light vinegary qualities. Fairly complex and highly drinkable for a sour. Very well-balanced - doesn't try to knock your socks off with sourness, but instead goes for a restrained sourness balanced sufficiently with fruity sweetness. Not much of a sour, but a fairly enjoyable sweet and barely sour ale of some kind.

Bottle: Poured a dark reddish color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of light tart cherries notes with underlining sweetness and light oak notes. Taste is sweeter then expected with some good notes of oak and sweet cherries. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. I was expecting more of a sour brown ale but this was a lot sweeter then expected β good drinkability with a nice complex mix to it.

Enjoyed in a wine glass at fridge temp. Cloudy plum appearance with minimal carbonation. Purple ruby red and brown all in one glass. Flanders red almost standard rodenbach scent. Oak and cherries are strong on the nose. Very overpowering cherries. Too sweet. Not a lot of smoke or vanilla as the label suggested. Mild mouthfeel and carbonation.

HUGE thanks to CaptainCougar for sharing this. Pours a clear amber color with no head. Tart aroma with earthy notes, citrus, must, caramel malts and slight vegetal notes. The taste is sweet malts, citrus, earthy, musty and herbal notes. Medium-full bodied. Nice beer.

Bottle 12fl.oz. @ home.[ Courtesy of Secret Summer Santa ]. Clear matt medium orange amber colour with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, oxidide, tart berry, cherry, sweet something ? ive sayed vanilla - Charlotte say no ! light wood, light soured mild ! Flavour is heavy sweet and moderate acidic with a long duration, cherries, lacto, dry, woody. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. Initial is did not like the aroma - it was to much oxidide but after a bit of time it did like the aroma so it charged from 7 to 8 .. [20110909]

Bottle @ home, courtesy of Glouglouburp. Very cloudy, red-brown appearance with a tan head. Spicy, almost cinnamon-like, moderately sour, bready brown ale nose. Really an intriguing, inviting aroma. Silky, velvety mouth feel. Moderately tart, oaky, light vanilla, cherry-cranberry-raspberry, somewhat spicy (nutmeg, cinnamon), brown ale flavor. Mostly a tart, fruity brown ale with some sourness on the finish. Excellent beer and very smooth. Very similar to the 2010 version but a touch stronger of flavor.
