First brewed in 1950, our malty award-winning Moonraker is dedicated to a local legend. The story goes that farmers close to the JW Lees brewery once fell into a pond, attempting to rake out a reflection of the moon they mistook for a truckle of fine Lancashire cheese. This strong ale should be handled with care, but its fruity aroma and rich, sweet flavour are now the stuff of legends too.

500ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown with a medium head. Aroma is raisin, apple and caramel malt. Sweet start. Plumy and raisin finish with some alcohol. Sticky aftertaste. Average.

Bottle. Brown sugar, molasses, raisins, peaches, caramel. This is a good Engish Strong Ale. The taste isn’t as sweet as expected, but it’s still a nice dessert beer. Apples and toffee are in there, too. The beer pours reddish amber with a small ecru head. Mouthfeel is full and chewy. It’s a litlte bit nutty. Very enjoyable beer.

500ml bottle Tampa Weekly Gathering @kiefdogs- thanks to Blazer06- pours a tan ring for a head and brown color. Aroma is dark malt, oak, brown sugar. Taste is dark malt, oak, brown sugar, dark fruit-raisin/plum. Soft carbonation.

Pumped at the vintage estate, very nice place and nice eye candy, yea. A brown color. Little head. Very mild aroma. Taste of mild leather. DEcent CO2. Weird taste of sand, dirt and sand without any grittyness. Interesting without being rude. Medium mild bitter finish. Behaved. Would never know this is above 5%!

Draught at Pizzeria Paradiso, courtesy of RJ & Rob, thanks guys. Murky maroon, completely flat. Aroma of caramel. Taste is very sweet and syrupy, not very complex. Couldn’t finish this one, I’m afraid.

Bottle. Sweet plum and barley malt aroma. Chestnut color with large, cascading head. Sweet raisin and toffee malt flavor with a mild bitter/astringent alcohol finish. Nice balance. Very nice.

500 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark. ABV is 7.5%. Mahogany coloured beer, big off-white to beige head. Very nice malty aroma with notes of caramel and dark dried fruits, also some oaky and vinous notes. The flavour is malty sweet and rich, notes of caramel and dark dried fruits again, vinous and oaky notes too, moderate hops in the finish. A lovely strong ale!

Last brew to rate on my Nashville trip (52 beers in just over a week). Printed on the neck is 13 AUG 09 as the best before date. Here’s to a good time in Tennessee. Pours a hazy medium-dark brown colour with a big beige soapy head and lace. Retention is good. Nutty nose with some dark fruits (plums, raisins, dates), red apples, brown sugar, molasses, oat and roasted malt. Wow... smooth as hell. No burns. Just a wet mouthfeel. Red apple taste with some mild molasses and sugars in the finish. Not much in the aftertaste. Maybe a little oat. A pretty decent easy-drinking English strong ale. Thanks, and goodnight TN !

Cask at the Rain Bar, Manchester. Dark brown with a red tint. Tangy, fruity aroma. Very malty, yeasty, sour. Amazing fruit—dried fruits, coffee, citrus. Strong, sourish, malty flavor. Interesting and nice, but not fabulous. A bit too sour.
