Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy light tan head. The aroma is grassy hop, light malt. The flavour is moderate bitter with a grassy nettle hop, spicy citrus malt palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. This was so gorgeously hoppy that it seemed more like a black IPA. A great beer indeed.

Bottle. It’s a dark brown beer with a dense, off-white to beige head. It has chocolate, some coffee, nuts and roasted malts in the aroma. The flavor is lightly sweet, with roasted malts and chocolate. Coffee and some prunes. Medium to full body with a pleasant carbonation level. Lasting roasted and coffeeish finish. Certainly not the most interesting BBNo beer I’ve had, but it’s quite tasteful and easy drinkable anyway. 140724

330ml bottle at home. Pours dark brown, red tinge, thin tan head. Aromas of treacle and burnt toffee. Dark fruits. Taste is coffee and dark chocolate bitter. Light sweetness, more hop bitterness coming through down the glass. Chunky. Lots going on. Good bitter finish.

Bottle at home in London - picked up from the brewery. Pours clear, moderately dark brown with a thick, mocha froth head that eventually settles into a lace-leaving cream. Lovely aroma with good dose of milk chocolate, some toasted marshmallows, dirt. Light to medium sweet flavor with lightly tangy dark malts, some old, leathery fruits, coffee grounds, burnt wood, earth and baking cocoa. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Fairly dry to finish with burnt malts, bitter earth, torched grass, orange rind, more bittersweet chocolate. A fairly gritty, workingman’s porter. Might not have enough sweetness to balance out the heavy roast character. Decent overall.

Bottle @ Kings Day Tasting 2014 shared with Dutchdrebus. Very dark brown to black color, average sized fair lacing beige to light brown colored head. Aroma is hard to describe and a bit confusing. I get the typical porter notes but also a fruity touch. Weird. Taste malts, pretty dry, slightly roast, a bit sweetish, again a touch of fruityness, a hint of caramel, dark malts, slightly earthy, slightly a touch of hops and a light to moderately bitter finish. Again, very dry in the finish with a nice bitterness. Medium body and carbonation.
