Brown 500ml bottle, best before Dec 2010, drank and reviewed mid Nov 2010, claims to be a ’Golden Summer Ale’, should have had it earlier in the year then! Poured into my current favourite tasting glass for pints: an Abbot Ale tankard. Golden it is, with a full off-white head proudly sitting on top. Plenty of carbonisation, as you could clearly see the bubbles rising up to the head. Zesty, yeasty aroma, definate summery smells from the garden, a true floral feel to it. Sharp and crisp in the mouthfeel, the taste being of green hops and citrus fruits, yet not being overly bitter or sour. Refreshing would be a good term to use and it certainly would have been nicer if I’d been sat in the sun drinking this on a warm afternoon instead of the damp and windy day I can see out the window as I write this with the beer before me. The beer tasted fresh and well balanced, the alcohol hidden nicely within the flavours. Not a beer I’d actively seek out, but one I’d gladly try again.

500 ml bottle, from Vaaland, Bryne. ABV is 4.3%. Hops are Nelson Sauvin and Amarillo. Very pale yellow colour, moderate head. Vegetal aroma, notes of grass, elderflowers and citrus. The flavour is citrussy and refreshing, moderate notes of elderflowers, hints of white grapes and green gooseberries. Moderate bitterness. Light bodied. A decent summer ale.

Aroma: Lemony, grassy and floral.

Appearance: Clear straw coloured body with virtually no head. No lacing. Lots of carbonation.

Taste: Sharp elderflower, floral hops and a bittersweet finish. Lovely.

Palate: Thin to medium body with an oily mouthfeel. Lively carbonation.

Overall: This reminds me of a cross between Cairngorm’s Trade Winds and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Pretty good.

Bottle, 4.3%. Bottle now says hops are Nelson Sauv. and Amarillo. Gold with a bit of a chill haze, small white head. Aroma of light honey, elderflowers, gooseberries. Taste is sweet with honey and rather more elderflowers than suggested by the aroma. Crisp citrus finish has a little pepper too. Solid warm weather refreshment.

50cl bottle, BBE 01/2013. Poured clear golden with a frothy, white head. Citrusy hops and malt aroma. Flavor is fruity at first, elderflowers cleary detectable, then it turns more sweet, honey perhaps? Semisweet finish. Sweetness was a letdown, otherwise quite a drinkable beer.

50 cl bottle of 4,3% version, BBE 01/2013
Aroma has honey, toffee and fruity hops. Flavour has toffee and goldings-like hops. Rather nice golden ale where part of the hoppiness is replaced with toffee. The sweetness of the honey in the finish disturbs me a bit. I have had also the 5% version, this is almost as good.
