[i] Bottle picked up from a delicatessens, Shrewsbury, Salop, 19-10-07 [/i] Poured mid-amber with a slightly hazy small head. The aroma was sweet, malty and a little nutty, tasting sweet with a honeyness throughout.

ruby/brown in colour,strong malt fruit nose, lots of malt, quite like a strong belgium brown though not a great example copper ...pears and malts ... bitter fruity hop ... earth ... still not that great

(Bottle 50 cl) Pours a slightly hazy, dark amber with a handsome, dense almost nitro-like head with excellent retention leaving a pretty lacework. Aroma of malt and nuts. Medium-bodied with light accents of caramel and nuts, but overwhelmingly rather bitter. Dry finish with lightly fusty notes. 140706

500ml bottle from the Beer Festival in St. Albans, Sept.05. Bottle contitioned (bb.02.04.2006). Clear deep brown colour with a huge dense eggshell head, mostly lasting. Weak sweet malty aroma. Burnt dark malts and fruity flavour with yeasty undertones. Dry finish with a slight touch of harsh bitterness. Rather good! Enjoyed at home while reading the April edition of CAMRA’s What’s Brewing and Beer (08.04.2004).

A hazy amber beer with a small orange head. The aroma is faint, but what is there is of caramel. The flavor is of slightly burnt caramel combinede with hints of yeast, leading to a dry end, while the body is thin.

Bottle. Malty, earthy aroma and flavour. The earthiness/moldiness seems to me inappropriate in this beer. 5 3 4 3 9 Cask. Weak roasted aroma. Clear dark chestnut colour, small stable tan head. Very nice roasted nut flavour. Flavourful yet mild. Finishes on a good malty sweetness. 7 3 8 3 18

Orange-amber, hazy beer; amberish head, slim. Chalk, after some time good hops, liberally dosed. Hops to the fore in the taste, bit of cardboard. Turning then more citrussy, orange zest, but essentially lots of hopoil. Where the nose hinted to better hops, taste is definitely more Challenger, smothering the malt. Aftertaste turning a wee bit harsh. Light to medium bodied, slightly slick - again a reference to hop oils? Not bad, not exciting. I’d probably preferred Fuggles over Challenger. And please, somebody explain to me what’s so special about Maris Otter, apart from a funny name?
