Bottle at home. Pours a rich copper with a white, frothy head. Toasty, lightly tangy malts on the nose with some grassy hops. Medium sweet flavor with hints of toffee, toast, dried fruit and earthy bitterness. Light to medium in body with average carbonation. Fairly dry on the finish, some earth and pine hops, crispy malts. A very straight-ahead ESB and a nice one at that.

Cask@GBBF2010. Deep golden colour, small off-white head. Aroma is fruity, grassy and mildly herbal with some slight toasted malts in it as well. Flavour is quite much the same along with mild caramel and some slight spicyness.

50cl bottle from Bernie’s, Shirley. Another very well presented beer from Hobsons. Pours reddish gold with a billowing cream head; slightly spicy malt aroma; soft with a full rich fruity flavour - like liquid fruit cake - leaving a slightly sour, but pleasant aftertaste, then an earthy finish. Very moreish.

[Polypin at the Good Food Show, NEC, Birmingham] Sweet, rich & treacley with a good solid earthy bitterness following behind. Satisfying.

Angry fist of Santa tasting at Chris_o’s. Hazy amber, lasting thick beige head. It’s an ok English strong ale. Little bit off maybe. Could be better. Some pepper
