A hint of initial sweetness adds to the fruitiness and grapefruit tang of this summer ale without detracting from its clean flavour and rich hop aroma.

Bottle: Poured a bright golden color ale with a large foamy head with OK retention and some light lacing. Aroma of fresh citrusy hops is very enticing with light floral and semi-sweet malt. Taste is also an interesting mix between some citrusy notes with a very light bitterness and loads of floral undertones; semi-sweet malt base is well incorporated in the mix. Body is average with good carbonation. Well brewed and interesting beer in a style that doesn’t necessarily produces it lots of complex beer.

A pale blonde ale with a thin white head, lacing. In aroma, butterscotch malt with fruity esters and faint grassy hops. In mouth, a smooth lightly roasted caramel malt with light butterscotch, and light grainy notes, herbal British hops, lighter bodied but nice. LCBO.

500ml bottle. Pours orange gold with a medium, frothy head. Aroma is faint, tangerine jelly. Taste has some straw to start. Lots of tangerine jelly on the finish.

Bit more orange on the nose, this time! Also, more orange on the taste. The end is still not as clean as I’d like on the end, but an increased rating overall. Previous rating 16/06/11 5/3/5/3/10 = 2.6 50cl bottle. Pours a slightly hazy lemon with gentle bubbles and a thin head. The nose has grapefruit pith and hay. The taste is of lemon pith, then nettles and there is a faint pale maltiness. The palate is very refreshing but there is not enough malt body to handle this sharpness - I know this is the fashion, but it lacks texture in the mid-palate and overall there is a lack of balance.

My first Dark Star experience, found at the LCBO in a 500ml brown bottle. Pours a clean golden colour with a frothy white head, decent retention and soapy lace. Aromas of sweet fruits (oranges, peaches) mixed with grain and honey. The taste is not as sweet, thankful. Quite mild actually, with a nice blend of biscuit malt and hops. Not too bitter and not long lasting. Just refreshing, but not a swill. A pretty good overall well-brewed golden ale.

Bottle . Gold with a bit of a chill haze. Small white head. Mandarin, pears, lemon aroma. Very little carbonation. Taste has light caramel sweetness, mandarins, a little lemon. Moderate bitter finish. Refreshing but just not very engaging.

[500ml bottle from Wyevale Garden Centre, Twyford, that Dad shared with me – cheers!] Golden amber with a negligible white head and a slight fizz. Pithy grapefruit bitterness balanced against sweet biscuity malt. It’s decent, but there’s now a lot of beers around that do this sort of thing better.

Bottle. Thickish looking golden beer with a strong head. The aroma is fruity and hopped, and the flavour is hopped and fruity with green elements. Overall a nice golden beer.

50 cl bottle thanks to ekstedt! He got if from Cracked Kettle.BB date pretty much impossible to get due to black on black print and glue from sticker.Sampled on April 16, 2011Clear golden color, very low/small white head. Sweet, red berries, sirup, massive honey, butter scent. Sweet, stale, bread, light touch of caramel, coconut flakes taste. Fairly low, though smooth, mouthfeel, low co2 feeling. Dryish bitterness that finishes harsh and with hints of glue.Didn’t really care much for this one, it’s not a first choise to get again. --- Beer merged from original tick of Sunburst (Cask) on 12 Aug 2014 at 04:48 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 7. Bottle from the Bitter End, Bromley. Bright golden pour with a white head. Grapefruit, pear, peach, mango and a little caramel aroma. Quite fruity. Fruity hop laden flavours with a bit of a sharp citrus bite. Nice fruity finish. Refreshing.
