Postman's Knock is a beer offering an intelligent blend of complex ingredients, the rich brown beer with a smooth fine head has a very chocolately character. The combination of subtle flavour notes of vanilla, treacle and roast malt gives an initial rich sweetness leading to a velvety chocolate finish.
The beer is named in honour of Simon Evans (1895-1940), a novelist and short story writer, who settled in Cleobury Mortimer after World War One. He had been badly affected by poison gas in the war and, in order to improve his health, worked as a postman, walking up to 18 miles a day. Postman's Knock is based on the Champion Mild recipe and uses the finest malting barley, Maris Otter and Worcestershire Fuggles and Goldings hops.
Bottle Notes - Postman's Knock is a bottle conditioned beer which contains sediment, pour carefully and best stored upright at cellar temperature 10 - 12 degrees.

Bottle: Almost clear, deep ruby-amber coloured, small stable off-white head; toasty-caramelly and a bit fruity-vinous nose; mild bitter flavour with a hardly detectable residual sweetness, pretty light bodied and surely not soft; slightly lingering dryish, but pretty watery toasty-caramelly finish. What an euphemism to call this pretty watery porter "rich"...

Aroma of soft malts tempered by heavy carbonation. Has a good big head and dark ruby body. Flavour is soft malt and barley with caramel hints. Kind of sugary. Just adequate and not interesting.

Clear dark red beer with an off-white head and a malty fruit aroma. Flavour follows the same pattern. Sharp on the tongue with fruit (maybe apple with some berry-type flavours) and a bit of hearty malt. Aftertaste is a touch watery but itโs thoroughly drinkiable.

Bottle split in the Fart Dungeon ... breakfast rake ... 04/02/16. Lightly hazed chestnut brown with a moderate beige covering. Nose is tobacco, light fruit esters, biscuit, malt. Taste comprises tarte dark fruits, biscuit, pipe tobacco, light roast. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, semi drying close. Directionless.

Bottle, thanks Cloin. Almost clear copper liquid with small to medium light tan head. Aroma of apples, raw sugar, raisins, caramel, toffee and grain. Taste is light sweet, light bitter and light sour with notes of raisins, lemon and apples. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Meh. Probably infected.

500ml bottle. 2001 vintage (!). Pours hazy dark brown, minimal head. Not as much cobwebs as expected. Some fruitcake. Light toffee. Not sure this has benefited from 14 years in a cellar.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Maxโs place. Thanks kerenmk. Reddishg brown with a beige head. Aroma of malt, caramel, toast, nuts, a fruity note. Sweetish flavor with malt, toast, caramel, nuts. Medium-bodied.

Backlog. From bottle at Mi2 at Cardinal 08.04.15. Slightly unclear dark brown. roma of roasted malt, with some chocolate malt. Short taste, with toffee and moderate bitterness. Waterish, Quaffable, but boring.

Ruby color with a fine off white head. Nutty, vanilla and mild roasted aroma with a moderate intensity. Medium body and an ok carbonation. Tad sweet and a moderate bitterness. Nutty, some spices, vanilla, a bit fruity and some coffee in the flavor. Ok complex porter.

Total Wine, Fairfax: pours clear brown with a light beige head. Aroma is nut, vanilla, chocolate, and hints of sugar. Taste is nicely roasty. Nice creamy body. Some light bitterness. Not too sweet. Eminently sessionable. I like it. Old school.
