A full-bodied, hoppy Red Ale brewed with rye malt. Peppery notes with a hint of spice held up by a big, bold, malty backbone. It’s complex, flavourful and interesting.

But, it’s not all about the malt with Hook Island Red. Kilos of West Coast hops – Chinook, Columbus and Simcoe – add flavours of resinous pine with a hint of passionfruit.

Bubbly beige head stayed well on a murky, rustic body. Spicy aroma with dark fruit, demerara, malt & caramel. Medium to full bodied. Thick & creamy on the palate with a nice clean back. Much as the aroma, malts, spicy dark fruit, hints of sugar & a piney & yeast finish.

Bottle at home on 27th January 2017; received as gift. Deep reddish brown hazy body with yellowy white shallow foam. Yeasty aroma with citrus hops. Nutty malts and citrus hoppiness in-mouth make for a bitter overall taste, which continues into the finish before fading into fruitiness. Zingy mouthfeel and plenty of body. Superb.

Draft at Euston Tap. Muddy brown pour, small tight head, lots of sticky lacing. Aroma is malt, molasses and some savory notes. Taste brings out the malts a bit more, brown bread, hoppy notes grow to a bitter finish. Smooth, yet sharp.

Bottled. Ambery brown colour with a small beige creamy head, that leaves some lace. Aroma is smoked wet wood, some rye bread and mild citrusy and floral notes. Flavour is quite similar, but has a nice crisp maltiness to it.

330ml bottle. Cloudy, dark amber colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Fruit acidic, citrusy hoppy aroma, cautious hints of mandarine and blood orange, passion fruit, a piney touch, caramel malty background with cautious crispbread touch. Taste is dry hoppy, minimally chalky, hints of passion fruit, malty basis with a spicy rye touch; slightly biting, bitter hoppy finish.
